I never had this brew myself, but I just cant justify spending $43 a bottle for a brew that only scores an "89" on this site. Anyone had this stuff, and is it worth the hefty price tag?

I might add that it was a 750ml bottle, 2011 vintage.

I've had it. It's a complex and very enjoyable wine barrel-aged Belgian strong dark ale. I gave it a 4.5/5---there's a lot of discussion on this site regarding the rating system interpretation, but what I mean is literally 4.5/5 = 0.9 (90%) or "A-". Pretty close to the overall "89". Is an "A- beer" worth $43? I received my bottle as a Christmas gift, so for me, the price was impossible to beat! Would I pay $43 for another bottle? No way. In retrospect, would it have been reasonable for me to spend $43 for a chance to taste it once? In my opinion, it's good, but probably not THAT good. It's a matter of disposable income. I'm not at all averse to spending relatively large amounts of money on beer but I don't have unlimited funds. With $43 I would seek out a different beer (or beers), preferably something closer to truly world-class.

We have had this at the local ship sitting on the shelves. Wife got me on for Christmas last year and it was very good. Won't pull the trigger for it again, and there is better stuff for cheaper.

IF you love Belgian Strong Dark Ales, you will eventually give in to your weakness and buy one of those sexy bottles. You will enjoy it immensely...and you (probably) won't feel compelled to buy it again.

I found both the regular Prestige and the De Nuits at a local bottle shop for $25, somebody mismarked them.

The regular Prestige was significantly better than the De Nuits which is aged in wine barrels, the regular is oak if I recall correctly. My tasting group all thought it terrific, amonst the best Beglo Dark ales we've been fortunate to sample. It paired fantastic with good cheese, an explosion of flavors.

So, I'd say the De Nuits isn't worth it, but the regular Prestige is a rare treat.

I had seen an image of this on here in a thread and I finally saw it yesterday on the shelf. Needless to say I was flabbergasted by the price, but I'm not made of money. Here it was $43-$50 depending on which version you wanted.

There's a bunch of expensive beers that'rr just off the chain good n expensive, Sam Adam's Utopia (close to $100) and Baladin Xfume Copper ($40 - $50), Brewdog tactical nuclear penguin ($60) come to mind, it's not too bad if you split the cost with a few friends. All these really push the brewing envelope and taste incredible, but then I'm an old fart that's jaded by the years and beers.

Well, I already knew about the other ones and I know they are expensive and for the most justified for some reason or another. But those beers you don't regularly see on the shelf. I was just surprised because here was this beer I had just heard about (with nothing in regards to price or really style) and then I just ran into it at a Total Wine and it was close to $50 (with many of them on the shelf). That is where the surprise came from. Thanks for pricing TNP for me. There is a place around here that has it for $100 and I think there is a place that has Sink The Bismarck for $150. Also, I saw the Baladin down in Orlando. My issue is none of my close friends are into craft, so there is that.

It's very good, but not worth $43.
