If you are a lambic fan, make sure you try the Bullfrog Le Roar Grrz Kriek on day 1. Only 3 kegs made it to PA a while back. This is the first one to surface. It's very good stuff.

Does this mean that they only made 3 kegs or only 3 kegs left Bullfrog?

They only made 3. I forgot that 1 was tapped at a private party. The other 2 came to SE PA right before beer week via Bella Vista. This is the first time one has surfaced since then. The rest of the batch was bottled.

None of them are to your immediate south. We still envy you down here. However even though I've done Beckinsale personally, I've never won the Powerball.

Not unusual outside of this country. In the UK it's called a 'tied house'.

    What is BBPt5 guys?

Can't believe the folks complaining about the lack of hopped-up barrels. Aren't brand new tongue-stripping IPAs coming out at about 20/day now? Count your blessings. I would go for the JW Lees on its own. Sometimes someone just sets something down in front of you that you may never cross paths with again.
    Respect beer.

Except I'm only going once, so I'm not going to get the Wednesday stuff. It started out as one day originally. But thanks for the obnoxious reply, it was quite helpful.

This was a really great event. Very laid back with only us diehards and a small lunch crowd at opening. I loved that this was at 11:00am on a weekday. The service was excellent and the amount of incredible beer on draft was truly impressive. It was a great time catching up with some fellow beer geeks that I hadn't seen in a while, as well as meeting some new ones, all while getting pours of very rare beer without any hassle. The highlights of today's list for me were the Pappy BBVD(what a ridiculous beer!) and Bullfrog Le Roar Grrrz Kriek. I was also able to try BA Abraxas, Boulder I am the Eggman, DuClaw Pumpkin Spice Retribution and Clown Shoes Very Angry Beast. Cheers to the whole crew at Bainbridge St. Barrel House! Hopefully I can make it back at some point tomorrow.

I was very impressed as well. I think that the ticket thing worked well. If you really wanted the beer, you could get it. The ability to use it whenever you wanted spread out the crowd throughout the day. I was there from 11-1 and 5-6 -- both times had a similar relaxed crowd. I can add that the free buffet was tasty and generous.

Well, the ticket system didn't work for me. I wrote a long complaint to them in a private message on their Facebook page. Here's what happened to me...I'm still pretty upset about the whole thing.

    "To whom it may concern,
I am really upset and disappointed with your business, even a night after it happened, which usually never happens.

Yesterday, I had the day off. I drove down and stood in line for 20 minutes to get tickets for the Perennial Abraxas and Voodoo PVW. I've been tracking the Abraxas for several months and first time seeing it in Philly.

After getting my tickets, while I could have stayed and at least drink the Abraxas, because of prior commitments, I decided that I'll wait until later in the evening to use the ticket. I planned the day, got babysitting for my 1-year-old, and went to the place with my wife. This was the first time we've been out in months.

Got there at 9PM, sat down, excitedly pulled out my Abraxas ticket and the bartender told me it kicked 2 hours ago!!! She seem to didn't care, had no sympathy on the fact that I had a ticket. I went and talked to the manager. He didn't have anything to offer other than "I'm sorry, don't know what to tell you", explained that the owner decided to kick the keg earlier because it was tasting bad. I told him what's the point of doing the ticket system AND said "guarantees" if this happens. I told him I was going to ask my wife to take the bus today to get the BBPt5 and Huna tickets (I'm working today so I can't go myself), but I can't really now if it's not worth the time. The manager then said, well, if she ends up getting the tickets, be sure to call before showing up. WTF?!?!? The point is that she will have to take the bus, stand in line for at least 1/2 hour for ticket, take the bus back, and I have to plan my day so I can go, getting babysitting AGAIN, etc. Why would I want to do any of that if guarantee tickets aren't guaranteed, AGAIN!

I did get my Voodoo PVW, but that was hardly any consolation. No offer of free beer (really wasn't the point, but would have been nice), no offer of here are 2 tickets for tomorrow so you wife doesn't have to take a bus down, no we'll change the description on the event to "no guarantee", nada.

I have been really excited about your event for a few weeks now, posted it on BeerAdvocate.com, and got you a bunch of exposure. I felt that you over promised (and continue to do so by guaranteeing the pour still on PTF http://phillytapfinder.com/event/anniversary-party-day-2/) at the expense of your customer inconvenience, while making no efforts to recognize the inconvenience caused by failed promises. That isn't a way to run a business and I hope you rethink how you run events using tickets. Either stop guaranteeing pours, do a better job at allocating tickets, etc. If all else fails, find a better manager who actually can sympathize with what your customer went through and do something to make up for the great inconvenience caused.

    Al"

I know it's such a fucking First World problem, but I couldn't help being upset still. This probably fits into that whole "You know you're a beer geek if..." thing. If you're going to get your ticket, USE IT RIGHT AWAY!!!

I have to admit that is a crappy result after you went through so much personal trouble, and it really would have been good of them to slide you a couple tickets for today early just to save you a similar expense. I'm unclear--are these tickets paid for at the time of pick-up or are they just handed out to give you the chance for the purchase later? Because, if the former, they sure should have given you something for your money.
But if the latter, I have to ask at what point does a beer become worth all of the trouble that you went through? I mean, it's just beer. However you paid the dues for this one and I feel for you OP.

Thanks for the sympathy. You do not pay for the tickets. "This ticket is redeemable for 1 draft pour of ______. One ticket per person expires end of business 11/5. This is not a purchase, merely a right to purchase."

I absolutely would not have gone through all the troubles if I knew that it wasn't "guaranteed". I think that's the part that got me. I could've drank it right at tap time and not worried about working out the rest of the day.

Maybe you could focus on just how good that Voodoo PVW was instead. That's quite a catch to say it was 'hardly any consolation'.

Was the BA Abraxas actually bad? That part of the story is not explained?

No, it was delicious. Not sure why he got told that.

Well I think that is something to complain about. Not only did he get screwed out of a pour then he got lied to about it.

The explanation makes no sense. If the beer is tasting bad why would you serve it at all?

Getting the PVW BBVD is not a consolation. The dude had tickets for both beers. Why should he be happy with getting only one of the beers of the 2 that he was "Guaranteed" a pour of?

    Some people's logic is f-ed

The explanation was that as the Abaxas was getting "bad" as it got to the bottom of the barrel. "People was complaining" so the owner kicked it.

OK, quick update. Heard back from Bainbridge. Lots of apologies from them. They will take care of me! I'm very happy with what they suggested. Definitely made it right.
