My friends are BMC drinkers. I'm not sure if they actually like them or just don't have the interest to change their drinking habits. I used to take a variety of nice craft beers to gatherings, but no more. I would be basically the only one drinking them. They would sample what I took, but the only comment I'd get back is, "Oh, it tastes different." Then, they would promptly go back to their Bud Lights. Sometimes, making fun of me for drinking foo-foo beers.

Maybe this has already been addressed (I haven't read the whole thread), but I disagree that all AAL/BMC drinkers who prefer that one brand couldn't tell the difference between the three.

I've experienced it plenty of times elsewhere, but especially with the three of my best friends. Each stick to one of the three BMCs: One Coors; One Lite and one Bud. I've been with them to weddings, fishing tournament banquets, parties etc.. where BMC has been out in kegs and not labeled. Each of them may not be able to tell the difference between the two BMCs they do not drink, but sure as heck know when the beer in their cup is not their brand.

Maybe their having stuck with that one beer had its roots in some type of brand loyalty, but now that it's their beer they know the difference.

Same thing with my girlfriend and root beer. She loves Bargs fountain drinks. If we're on the road and I go into the store to get her one, and only Mug/AnW is on fountain, and I get it for her, she pegs it right off and is not happy.

A connoisseur/"geek" is someone who enjoys analyzing what they are eating/drinking and embraces the culture that surrounds it.

A snob is someone who feels that liking a certain style/product/genre/level of sophistication and/or possessing a better knowledge/understanding of the culture makes them a better person that those who do not share it with them.

I have a few friends who are beer geeks (fun to drink with) and others who are beer snobs (not fun to drink with).

My beer "snobbery" is a direct result of my best friend's love of craft beer. We lived together in college and traveled to the beer-friendly parts of Europe together and I returned a fan of craft beer. Before that trip and living with him, I wouldn't touch the stuff.

Win? I am confused...doesn't everybody use the proper glassware when drinking lime-a-Rita?

How else does one capture that surgary kool-aid lime boozy aroma that screams headache?

a beer snob is anyone who scoffs at someone for drinking something they don't like. That would also include anyone who scoffs at an establishment for not carrying a list of "exclusive, rare, or up to par," beers. I hate beer snobs with a passion, and to that I cheers you all with a miller high life

I'm pretty much a snob, it just happened. I can walk into a place now and be completely dissatisfied with the selection if I can't get a good IPA. 8 years ago a couple of Sams on tap and a Harpoon would have thrilled me. I sometimes feel guilty about it (when I say guilty I mean like an asshole walking in and saying meh to a stale selection) but it is what it is at this point. I'm glad that the beers avaialble now are so good that they've turned me into this.

When I first jumped back into craft for the third and likely will be the final time, I am ashamed to admit that the resurgence and accompanying social explosion ignited an unfortunate" mob mentality" in me when it comes to snobbery. A few years ago, if you weren't anticipating some heralded release, than you just weren't at my "level". Today, I could give a shit. I have worked in the industry with great people and with absolute douchebags. I have shared a bud light with great friends and bellied up next to absolute dicks. What I'm trying to say is that a snob is what I was, caught up in making sure everyone else knew how enlightened I was. Now I'm just honored to be able to enjoy such great beers while occasionally helping others navigate the craft world, without the smug conceding ego that I see going on way too much.

Very well said. This might be a textbook answer in my opinion, of a beer snob. I had my first "microbrew" about 17 years ago. I enjoy trying different beers, homebrewing, etc.
With the recent boom of the craft beer industry, it seems that many take more pleasure in trying to flex their beer knowledge muscles than they do in drinking good beer.
Drink what you like, tell people about in a nice way and maybe they will enjoy it as well. Dont be the guy in the bar that talks trash on Sam Adams because of their commercials, while trying to be "in the know"

Well all evolve. Learn from our mistakes. It is easy to get so excited about a new hobby that your common sense leaves you for awhile. usually my wife always knocks me down a few pegs and I feel better.:grinning::stuck_out_tongue:

I think it would more likely be a single malt, Bourbon or G+T but I agree either way.
