I have a friend that wants to throw out a old refrigerator, so for a few beers I get it, looking to convert it into a dual tap kegerator. I know nothing about this and homebrew so I want to start kegging. Now that I have the fridge, what is my start up going to cost and anyone have some good reviews? Gonna do this when I get my taxes back. Thanks.

You just need to gut the inside of the fridge, and get shanks to go through your front door. I think a keg kit on kegconnection or kegcowboy is somewhere in 120 ball park. That includes a 5lb bottle, keg, lines, connections, and a shank. All I can suggest is this: Bite the bullet in the beginning and get the Perlicks. I wouldn't even bother with the standard faucets in a home setup.

I just finished up building my kegerator out of an old fridge from my work. Nothing wrong with the fridge. They just replaced with a bigger and newer fridge. So I ended up taking it home. Friday I picked up my conversion kit from a local homebrew store in Long Beach. The total cost for the kit was $400. But I upgraded everything and that included a 10lb Co2 tank filled and dual perlicks. It took about two hours to complete on saturday. And the only thing missing was a keg. Took care of that with a 5 gal of GFWCIPA. Tap it that day and enjoying it over my 4 day weekend. Best investment for a kegerator is an older fridge. The other tap will be for my homebrew that should be getting ready to keg next weekend.
So I would say go for it. I wish I would of done this a long time ago. But be sure to upgrade to the perlicks and a bigger Co2 tank.

400 is way to much to spend, as in "sorry dude you got ripped off". Shouldn't cost you more than 200. Micromatic.com should be a good start or a local restaurant supply store. Buy the parts. It a kit and a local gas retailer should have tanks you can rent or buy out right. I take mine to a local fire inspector who sells 5 pound tanks full for 50 and refills for 15. That tank usually pushes 3 to 4 15.5 kegs

I did the same as you with an older fridge and only did a single tap. didnt need to gut anything just found the right spot on front door between shelves, drilled and popped in faucet. If I had to do it again I would buy this one for dual taps working off one tank and one regulator. This is all you need and it is only $200 for the premium kit. Could do it for even cheaper if you want.

If you plan to homebrew, do not get a 5lbs tank, you'll go through that quickly. Bigger tanks are more expensive up front, but cheaper to fill in the long run and you never run out when you least expect it. I built my drip tray out of a SS mud pan from Home depot, very hillbilly, but thena gain my kegerator is candy apple red with black racing stripes. Yeehaw! ALso: buy SS shanks and faucets.

This is a good setup, but the price does not include the CO2 tank, so you can expect to pay $50-$100 more than $200 for a setup like this.

I agree Mr Brown. 400 was alot to spend for a kit. But the fridge was ready on Friday. so I went to my local homebrew store and bought it that Friday. Was gonna install it that day but ended up at Beachwood BBq for drinks n food. So I installed the kit first thing Saturday morning and tapped that noon. I would'nt have had a chance till 2 weeks later when I would have my next day off. So for me it was go for it that weekend or wait 2 weeks. I did look online at Northern, Beverage Factory, Midwest, Micromatic, Austin, Cowboy, etc. and yes I could of picked it up for cheaper than what I paid for it. Including the shipping cost and the all upgrades I would of saved around 80-100 if I would of bought it online. But dont forget I already saved by getting a used refrigerator for nothing. So I still made out. And this fridge kicks ass. For a 13 year old fridge it is running excellent and keeping the beers a cool 34F.

But I would definitely upgrade from a 5lb tank to at least a 10lb. And the tank I bought was already filled and new.

So I would say shop online for better deals. I did but I chose to just go to my local homebrew store and purchase. Had the extra $$'s to spend. No big deal.

Hey bottom line is you got fresh beer on tap and when you wanted to. Enjoy the fruits of your labor with a fresh pint and the money you save will make up the little difference in price in no time. cheers!

I just installed my dual tap system last weekend and am now pouring a nice pale anytime I want....as much as I want. I paid $320 shipped for the dual tower, 2 kegs, 5 lb CO2 tank, faucets, dual regulator, etc. Since you won't need a tower, it'd be a little cheaper. Setup was pretty easy. Add an additional $12 to fill a 5 lb tank. The only thing I regret was not forking out the money for Perlicks but I figure I'll just use the standard ones until I need to upgrade.
