Would it be possible to vacuum seal them before shipping? Without oxygen, there's no combustion risk, right? I remember reading somewhere last year about some non-West Coast brewery (maybe GD, maybe Founders, maybe neither?) flying in the hops to make their fresh hop beer. So somebody must have figured out a way to make them safe for air travel.

    I'll agree with bumchilly25 - Phillip's Green Reaper IPA ,
I'm so looking forward too trying FondueVoodoo's - Driftwood's Satori Harvest IPA ,
twice I've had it in my hands and bought something else
and add one more Hoyne's Wolf Vine Wet Hopped Pale Ale

This. I find myself buying Fremont more than any other brewery these days. Although Bale Breaker is catching up.

Haha will be making my own fresh/wet hop Chinook IPA with my first hop harvest, and hoping to score some Fremont Cowiche Canyon to enjoy also. Surly Wet is good, lotta good ones out there, Fremont's is in a class of its own for fresh hop goodness, though.

You're correct. Both "fresh" and "wet" hops are technically fresh meaning they're both from the recent harvest, which is in the fall. Only a small percentage fresh of them actually use wet hops, which have the distinction of never being dried. Usually, brewers go out of their way to tell you when they use wet hops. I'm sure most of the PNW beers that claim to be fresh hop are just that and not necessarily wet hopped unless stated by the brewer.

All of the 10+ fresh hop beers I've had from the PNW have been wet hopped as stated by the brewers. Like I said in an earlier post, maybe it's not as strict of an interpretation in other parts of the country, but in the PNW "fresh hop" is synonymous with "wet hop". 24 hours or less from field to brew, no drying.

We just got about that much promised locally for next year, but he has ability to switch to ten fold that.

Folks don't know it, but we mushroom and edible plant foragers come across wild hops from when NY was a huge hop growing state (maybe give a hint of the future to know it once grew lotsa hemp), and its climate has attracted farmers.

I look forward to NYS having some of the finest hops to go along with some of the finest hoppy beers made from them, wet, fresh, and otherwise.

Yeah I know we are still in the "cute" stage haha.

I see what you're saying. Given that's where most hops in the US are grown, that would make sense. I think it's a bit of a gimmick, but as long as the beer is good, I don't care. In my experience, most fresh hop (wet or dry) beers have been kind of light on the hops so I really don't get all that much out of them. I pretty much stopped bothering with them where I used to live since I was always disappointed with everything I tried after having had Surly Wet and Founders Harvest, but I'm looking forward to seeing what CA has to offer in terms of fresh-hop beers this fall.

I enjoy Terrapins "So Fresh and So Green Green" each year. Last year was wet hop Citra, and that shit was amazing...

I also had Harvest Ale on tap when I was in GR on business, and that was pretty damn good too.. but could have been because it was at the source!

Loved Surly Wet, wish I could get it regularly.

My favorites are Founders (of course) and Great Divide High Tide.

Moonlight Green Bud is pretty awesome.

Magnolia High Times Harvest is great too and the past few years they've been doing single wet hop - maybe once dogpatch gets sorted out we can get it in cans/bottles.

Toronado usually has a wet hop week with 10+ wet hopped beers labeled green on the big board - its not to be missed!

Not really. Mom & Pop's Wet Hop Lager was pretty good, too.

I though they should have just stuck with Fresh Hop Mirror Pond

I've taken a few trips up to the PNW in September. The first time I went up I went to Portland and went to the Deschutes brewpub. They had just released the fresh hop Mirror Pond. I'm not a fan of hoppy beers like pale ales and IPAs. That beer changed my life. The difference in flavor between wet hops and dry hops is amazing. It's like night and day. Fresh hop Mirror Pond is one of the best beers I've ever had.

The next year I went up to Seattle and tried the Two Beers fresh hopped beer (forget what type). It was a great beer too but not as good as the Mirror Pond.

If you get the chance to go to the PNW when it's fresh hop season try to make it up there.

I've been wanting to go to that for several years now but never made it. This year, I'm in.

I love the Fremont and Two Beers fresh hop ales. Fresh Hop Mirror Pond on draft was amazing, but in my opinion the bottled version didn't quite measure up. Last year, my favorite was Georgetown DH369, which was made with fresh Mosaic hops.

I was fortunate to have tried a very fresh bottle of this year's Founders Harvest Ale. It was amazing!

Very good stuff, hoppy and moderate bitterness.
