It's amazing how people decide a style's attributes on the basis of a few examples which in any case were labelled at the whim of the brewer. It's not uncommon to find two or more words used for the same item , peewit and lapwing, alfalfa and lucerne, corn and maize, stout and porter.

If someone decided to call BCBS an imperial porter, I'd still buy it.

It is what inside [the can/bottle/keg/growler] that counts!

    Hear, hear.
There are such fuzzy lines between so many of these styles, Pale Ale > Imperial Pale Ale > IPA > DIPA > IIPA... I've had Pale Ales that are hoppier than many IPAs, and IPAs that are hoppier than IIPAs, and so on and so forth.
It's similar to Porters and Stouts, there is no exact line, but what the brewer decides they are.

See any of the threads on Porters vs Stouts. Or the other threads on Imperial vs Double.

Once you've decided that the issue is sufficiently muddy and particularly irrelevant, you'll have your non-answer.
