I have a dream to open a brewery in the abandoned Cheesman factory in Sun Prairie. Probably too large of a place though.

I wonder how big the market is for black IPAs. I don't know anyone who gets excited about them.

It must be big for New Glarus to make Black Top year round.

Sorry if I missed it in the thread, but has anyone been out to the brewery/taproom yet? I still haven't tried any of their beers, just curious if it's worth going to. If not, I'm perfectly happy sitting at Karben4...

They'd brew beer for an out of state company wanting to sell their beer in Madison...say, Sixpoint, which is shipping all their beer from the East Coast to suburban Milwaukee for distribution to Milwaukee, Chicago, and Madison...much cheaper to have it brewed in Verona and shipped to Milwaukee.

I think the WBC facility would be good to brew other companies' beers if they are not able to sell enough of their own.

It's not worth a trip...very bland--a bar and a few barstools and a T.V.--only bartenders, no wait staff.

Don't waste your time here. Beer is meh at best. Worst part is they're selling empty 64 oz. growlers for $25/each and fills for $18 each ($15 for your first fill I believe). That is a complete and utter rip off even for good beer. Don't think I've ever heard of a brewery having their growler fills be more expensive than their bottles on a per ounce basis.

It seems like they are going to be catering to people who are just a notch above your normal BMC customer but not actual craft beer enthusiasts. It'd be like if NG only offered their year rounds and nothing else (even in that case, NG would have a far better offering)

All I'm saying is that New Glarus must know something about the beer market around here.

When I read of new breweries having blah product, boring taproom, bad pricing, I typically think the new outfit just needs time to get it's act together. With all the big talk about how WBC has everything dialed in and they are on the fast track to glory, I think they have forfeited the right to use the normal mulligans.

Here's hoping WBC does indeed turn into something worthy. If not, here's hoping that within a few years, the best selling beer in the WBC taproom is Spotted Cow, because I love ironic comeuppance.

Yep, I've yet to see a new brewery/brew pub not have a few hiccups when they first open. I'll keep an eye on them, and let the beer speak for itself, assuming they price the beer competitively.

    $7.99 a sixer around Madison.

And I'm saying Wisconsin is "the" market for New Glarus Black Top IPA......in Wisconsin.

This can't be true! A typical deposit on an empty growler is $5.

Yes, my quote above was to be applied here-

It was $25 to buy an empty growler. I didn't bother asking if they only fill their own growlers. Based on everything else though, my guess would be yes.

What I was saying is that Wisconsin is the only market (legally distributed) for New Glarus Black Top. Thus my question: is Wisconsin the stronghold for Black IPA drinkers?
