I've never been to a special beer release, so this will be a first. I and a few friends are headed down to Richmond on the 16th for the official GBS release. Who else is going? How has it been in past years? Huge line/bottle sharing/party starting at 1am?

I'm excited. Should be a great time.

no bottle share in line (it's illegal here and the VA ABC control office is like 2 blocks away!)

this year will be a little different compared to the past as there is a big marathon the morning of the 16th which is blocking almost every road surrounding the brewery so Hardywood is doing a bottle sale the night before starting at like 9 or 10, then the main party at 2pm (they're hoping the streets will be open by then) on the 16th where you can get bottles and draft, etc.

no need to line up hours early.

Sounds like they chose a great date for this one.

How quickly does it sell out at the brewery and around RVA? I'm hoping to make it down for the BBGBS release in Dec. and was wondering if GBS will still be around.

I don't know how much they brewed this year compared to the past, but if it's like the last 2 years, it won't last a month. last year barely lasted 2 weeks. it's likely that Hardywood and bars/restaurants will have kegs of it still at that point

The website says GBS will be available for 32oz and 64oz growler fills. Does anyone know if Hardywood will fill other growlers (i.e., should I bring my empties) or will I have to buy theirs to fill?

They will fill others, as long as they have the government label on them. However, in the past they have sold pre-filled growlers, as the growler line usually gets insane during the release.

Pre-filled growlers are the way to go...

So you guys think that bottles will still be available on Sunday or that following Wednesday at the brewery? I can't make Saturday but Sunday or Wednesday might be an option for me.

I will be down that way Saturday visiting some friends and will probably stop by at some point to pick up a couple bottles. I'm trusting the BA reviews on this one. I dropped damn near $50 on some of their other reserve series and was very "disappoint".

    I'm considering hitting pre-release...
    What's the approximate retail on a gingerbread stout +/- $5 ??

Are any of you planning on going down Fri night and hitting my bottle share on sat? Or anyone willing to grab me a bottle or two? Since I'm doing the share on sat the gf wants to hang Fri night :grimacing:

Which did you have? I loved their barrel aged ipa and quad. Have a sidamo barrel aged in my fridge

    From the info I've gathered...it's $9 a bottle.

When will your bottle share be on Saturday? Can I get more information on this? I'm heading down on Friday by the way and hitting up Mekong Restaurant.

Aside from what they offer in the flights, I purchased 2 blackberry, a chocolate heat, and a pumpkin. Nothing barrel aged was available.

The only negative thing I have to say about chocolate heat is that there was ZERO heat. The beer was fantastic otherwise.

The farmhouse pumpkin is just not my style and blackberry was my 4th drainpour ever. I don't know what to do with the last bottle.

I'll still support them whenever I can (they don't make it up to NOVA), but I won't be dropping $14 on any future bombers from them unless I see "World Class" ranking on BA.

Their single and something else is up in Nova now. I didn't try any of those you had though but yea the bombers were expensive

Anyone know from past experience how many people are likely to show up at the Fri night pre-release? And how efficient the crowds are handled?

There are 280 people signed up to go on the FB group as of today, which sounds like quite a lot for a smallish brewery like Hardywood.

that's cheaper than they've ever sold Gingerbread. I would say closer to $11-12
