True story? Because I believe it.

I've had similar experiences, but next time I'll ask for some Jack Abby's 2nd Anniversary Lager and a Weihenstephaner Korbinian and see the looks I get!/

I did have a similar experience, but I give this waitress credit: Was on vacation in Cape Cod and went to an outstanding Italian restaurant w/ my family. Was only 21 at the time, and wasn't really into craft beer yet. I still enjoyed trying new beers once in a while, but I was usually a Stella, Sam Adams, St Pauli Girl, Heineken kinda guy (yes, I will get grief - but I still enjoy all those beers, and I'll take any of those over BMC in any situation). Asked what they had on draft, they had a so-so list, nothing that peaked my interest. I then asked about bottles. She said, "Oh, we have pretty much everything". So I asked her to list "everything" expecting her to say the normal stuff. And I give her credit, she fired off about 20 beers without having to think. I ended up trying about 4 new beers that night.

The next logical question that doesn't make you any kind of jerk but simply a curious customer is "Can you please be a bit more specific?" :astonished:

Most of my minor annoyances have been covered, so I'll descend in to the territory of pedantry with this one...

It's a little odd how many servers assume you're drinking only one thing the whole time you're there. "Would you like another *whatever I ordered first." No, ma'am, you have 50 good beers on tap, I think I'll try a... *something else*

I understand lot's of people are brand loyal to one macro or only prefer one type of cocktail, but chances are the guy ordering the craft beer isn't like that.

no asking to clarify the definition of everything, or even asking for the cheat sheet that most food joints (at least the ones that I have worked at) give you on your first day of employment is perfectly fine. It is more how you come off, if you are rude or attempt to make the server feel dumb, then you are being a dick. I.E. I used to work at a "Country/Western" steakhouse, Texas Roadhouse, and would occasionally have people come in and be completely rude about how limited our wine selection was, I would tell them the styles that we had but had no idea how different locations/vintages changed the wine so dramatically.

I hear yea, but my first manager said this to me before he hired me. He said the customer is ALWAYS right, if you do not believe that you cannot work here. we had signs up saying that. sure many were dicks, but IF you made the dicks happy they came back over and over. You be surprised on repeats they may have screwed on 1 visit on tips and then they make up for it on the next. of course the flip side it depends if the area is a total tourist place. Bottom line do not make a career of waiting tables, its hard work for no money.....its why so many turn to theft....

Still one has to suck it up, because If I get treated bad, I TELL everyone.:grinning::grimacing:

of course this was long ago, maybe they do not care about customers anymore?

You know what's worse? People complaining about complainers...This is a forum dedicated to talking about beer ffs, but I guess we just can't talk about some things.

Expecting you to know the locations may be taking it too far, but expecting you to know what vintage your selling whether wine or beer is what I would expect, vintages make a big difference for both wine and beer. Location does too and really your menus should say the vintage and location for wine and craft beer places should list the vintage of the beer.

You'd better not be complaining about that guy complaining about complainers.

Or I'm going to have to start... bitching about it, I guess.

My local bar got rid of their beer menus and put it on a giant tv now and rotates to the next page every 30 seconds, I hate it by the time the page turns im still reading.

Try http://www.taplist.at/ runs off untappd data - though it is better for seeking out individual beers vs. what's on tap at a particular bar depending on how popular a place is with untappd users.

That should motivate you to read faster. This may be the only time a bar will ever help improve your life, embrace it.

Ice cold mugs and the fact that I have to travel to the next city over to find a bar that uses the proper glassware. It's all frosted pint glasses. The inconvenience of living around a place with nothing but chain restaurants. Kinda dumb but it's a pet peeve.

I really have a problem with know-it-all craft guys, especially if they really know a lot. I also treat employees with respect regardless of whether they have a clue or not. That's just me, the way I was brought up. I find it amazing that some folks just are determined to be resolutely negative; most often when they are confronted with the opportunity to be unhappy about anything at all.

Bad service is one thing. If the bartender refuses to correct something they can control then don't tip....
This you thinking an establishment is skimping on servings by way of providing their staff with smaller vessels and holding the person, who probably doesn't even have a key to the toilet paper storage, responsible. Returning to that establishment is OPTIONAL As well. I bet you get bad service everywhere.
