Victory Dirtwolf vs Lagunitas Sucks

I find these comparisons somewhat amusing. There is a lot of anti Victory bias out there; largely because they produce decent, but not world class beers. However, they got Dirtwolf right. I've never had Pliny or Heady, so I can't make those comparisons, and trying to do side by sides with 70+ IBU beers is pointless anyway. However, I've had had Sucks and enough variations of Enjoy By, and if I had my druthers, I'd rather have a Dirtwolf. I can't remember another double IPA that I've had that so incredibly well balanced and had the flavor profile that Dirtwolf has.

 

I don't think they taste similar at all. I'm not a huge fan of Sucks (I honestly don't know why people love it so much) but I think it's better than DirtWolf. I really REALLY don't know why people are high on DW. It tastes like an IPL--it'd make a decent one at that, but it only makes for a slightly above-average IPA, IMO.

 

I get more grass from Sucks and more grapefruit from DirtWolf

 

I opened up the first Dirtwolf and thought "Oh, maybe I have a stuffy nose?" I sniffed real hard and decided that it smelled pretty good.

Around the same time I opened a Racer 15, stuck my nose near the glass and thought "Wow that's really nice", opened several Oct Enjoy Bys and each time reminded my beer brain that "Oh right! This is what a DIPA smells like!", opened up the first Jai Alai of the week and said "Simcoe bombed from arms length, all is well in beerland."

Dirtwolf is really nothing special. Oh well, out in the 'nets there are threads about Blue Moon too, I suppose.

 

About 10 years ago when I was 40 and a lot of my friends were around 25 I told them that once you get to "my age" any woman who is young and thin looks good and you stop trying to figure out what's wrong with her. Now that I'm 50 and they're 35 we recently had a conversation where they reminded me of that and said they are seeing it too.

Both of these are amazing beers. Stop trying to nitpick what's wrong with them and just enjoy them.

 

I think Lagunitas is at the top of their game right now. I had a sucks the other day and it was delicious.

 

I see similarities between the 2, the nose especially. The alcohol is more present in DirtWolf. Still Sucks is my favorite beer hands down. Cant wait for Sucks to return to NY.

Dirtwolf is good but sucks is legendary. I want to do a side by side with sucks and head hunter once it releases.

 

It isn't even close sucks is ten times the beer that dirtwolf is.

 

the fact that this is actually a question on this website makes me wanna vomit. dirtwolf and lagunitas sucks in the same sentence? as if people. dirtwolf is average, and sucks is far far beyond that. c'mon ba's!

 

I thought Dirtwolf was the best I had tasted in a while...then I tried sucks on tap. Wow. It is absolutely delicious. Dirtwolf is good...sucks is better

 

Then please vomit away. How can u make that statement when this website is devoted to allowing people to express their OPINIONS. Just because you find sucks to be better, doesnt mean a damn thing to anyone else. Respect beer, and that includes the opinion of people whose taste are different than yours.

 

How is that still not cheap? Compare that to other high quality DIPAs with/without new exotic hop varietals. With few exceptions you would be looking at $8-$10 bombers and $12 4-packs. Even Heady Topper is $12 at it's lowest and that's considered a steal.
