Great beer either way. You made me listen to "Sky Valley" right away.

I detest the faux-luxury packaging, presentation and pricing of Stella Artois.

Port Brewing's Santa's Little Helper looks like some candycane beer or winter warmer.

That's a huge pet peeve of mine. Still, on the list of Rouge's sins that ranks pretty low as they at least manage to throw in the "style" cop-out.

Michelob Golden Draft Light. It says "beer" on it.

I've heard some interesting interpretations of Port City "Maniacal"
    Man-e-ack-uhl
    Man-ick-uhl
    Man-cuhl

Should have cut them off from the get go.

Sierra Nevada Torpedo IPA. Sounds like it's going to slam you with south hops it's painful. Bit this torpedo travels at about 2mph.

Granted, it confuses people these days, but Brooklyn's BCS, first released in 1994, predates the era when brewers commonly added actual chocolate/cocoa to beer (supposedly Oliver considered it, but didn't feel it was necessary after some pilot batches), and was named and marketed before the creation of a "chocolate stout" beer (sub-)style.

And, of course, a specialty roasted barley malt known as "chocolate malt" existed at the time.

The only commercially released chocolate-flavored beer I can think of before Brooklyn BCS was a gimmicky Whitbread product, Fuggles Chocolate Mild, brewed around the same time that I don't think even made in to the States.

Again, SN Bigfoot predates the creation/recognition of the "Double IPA" beer style.

I don't know, it's rather like saying "Pale Ales" are misnamed because later beer styles like Adjunct Lagers and Light Beer are much paler.

For the countless amount of craft I've drank, for whatever reason, I never tried Dead Guy. It's been all around me for years, but I never grabbed it. Being a lover of all things lager, when I found out it was indeed listed as a Maibock (I had never bothered to check, always assumed it was a pale ale or something) I was much more interested. Long story short, I had a bottle at a bar with a less then stellar selection a couple of weeks ago. It was a big let down, I found myself thinking and possibly muttering exactly what you wrote, "not a maibock."

To the OP: Sixpoint does this intentionally. It's part of their hipster marketing plan. But hey, they brew some decent stuff, so I'm not complaining.

I also came here for the Rogue slam! Plus, it's not a bad thing but Maine B.C. I like their labels, they tell me what the beer style is, a description on why they named it that. Plus having the ABV and Bottle on date is a huge plus. Rogue should take some hints on this. At least put on a bottled on date.

Ballast Point Yellowtail Pale Ale. Makes sense that it's a Kolsch.

Only Child Brewing from the northern suburbs of Chicago has Imaginary Friend, a "Hoppy Dark Wheat Ale." Those 4 words did not go together to me. It was confusing enough that I needed to try it and was pleasantly surprised.

Purely on labeling, Racer 5 Cafe 15. I have customers constantly ask me if it has coffee in it- I feel like I'm always de-bunking the myth!

I've noticed a lot of Lagunitas brews don't say what style the beer is on the label. Also, I confused Hoppin Frog's Fresh Frog Raw Hop Imperial Pale Ale for an I(ndia)PA.

Lagunitas Lil Sumpin Sumpin is a pale wheat, I thought it was an IPA when I first had it. Very awesome brew!

If I am not mistaken, Rogue uses their proprietary "pac man" yeast, which is a ale yeast, however they brew this beer (and lager it) to the Maibock style.

Perhaps that has changed in the last several years from when I looked into it out of curiousity.

    Big Sky Kriek.

The label would lead you to believe it's a kriek. In fact, it is 25 ounces of terrible nasty crap.
