Can anyone answer the question "Why is there a Florida disclaimer on the caps?" I probably can...

I may be reading these wrong, so apologize if so, but why the angry posting? You have some nice items and I think most people here have commented as such.

The FL on the caps is pretty common on certain brands (esp. Rhino Chaser) because certain states used to make the companies show the state being sold for tax purposes (AL, MS, and VA were notorious for that). Rather than make a whole new cap they would just throw the FL on the cap to cut costs.

Plus, those might be fakes. Rhino chasers always made sure they put their 'FL' on the left side of the rhino's head. There are a lot of bootlegs on the market.

Those Rhino cap are certainly not fakes, all the caps I have were chucked into a mason jar back in the day (see first page). I thought that most of the "FL" or "Florida" caps were done because Anheiser Busch had a "packaging" monopoly on Florida in the 1990's, meaning only bottle sizes that were the same as theirs could be imported into the state. There were no 22oz bottles there when I was, I have a bunch of Rogue 12oz bottles with paper labels that were the only ones I could get down there for awhile. Maybe the FL on the other side is to designate shipping there under these circumstances and not just tax? Or maybe its just a different run of caps?

Here are two different Rogue caps; a "thrown in" FL on the side and fully spelled out Florida. Maybe these are just different cap runs, or maybe the spelled out one is specifically for Florida?

Joke. I'm pretty sure there are no bootleg caps. But there might be a market for old Bigfoot caps...hmmm... Anyway, I'm pretty sure the 'FL' is a tax thing. There are many other states on caps, but the only ones I ever saw come through California had 'FL' and I don't know why...

Seeing your Temple jersey (i'm an alum) and the Philly beers were you from Philly or did you just go to school here? I might be interested in a Dock Street bottle if you'd be willing to sell.

Just noticed this post...all tongue in cheek. Making fun of the fact that I have about 500lbs of garbage that is somehow still cool.

I'm from the Philly area, lived and "colleged" in Florida for 10 years and now I've been in SoCal for 10. My dad is a Temple Alum, that Jersey is from the 50's or 60's (not one of his).

The bottles are a tough sell, they are all back in Philly. I was back home when I started this thread and took bottle pics. I boxed everything up nicely and labeled each one (documenting what's inside each), but each box weighs like 35lbs because there are many bottles in each one so...shipping the box with the Dock street to CA might not be worthwhile.

I need to find a serious bottle collector that needs many of these to part with them I think.
