Hey folks, hope all is well.

Question 1: What other beers taste like this one? I know the smart asses will post a link to the top rated English Strong Ales on this website, but I want a response that is a bit more honed (after all, if I asked for more amber ales and people directed me to the top amber ales here I'd land on Nugget Nectar, which we all know is an IPA, but I digress). What beers have you had that taste like Stingo and are somewhat available? The thing I love about Stingo is its strong dried fruit taste. The only other brew that I picked up as strong of a dried fruit taste with is Chimay Blue. Unfortunately, I have completely lost my taste for Belgian yeast. Anything with Belgian yeast these days does not appeal to me in the slightest.

Question 2: How much does a bottle of Stingo go for in your parts? I saw it on the shelf in Providence yesterday for $13.50. I am just curious if that's high/low/about right.

    Thanks in advance!

$13.99 in Florida, (@totalwine) I wanted to try it but for 18 oz I could not go there. So sorry I have not tasted it. Sounds like it is NICE but way to pricey.

I can't answer on flavor as I haven't had it yet. Locally in MN it is 12-14 depending on the store for price, though.

Boulevard and Pretty Things did a Stingo Collab ale last year that I still see sitting around every once in a while.

I paid about the same price. I didn't think it was worth it. A good beer- not excellent.

Great beer. However, it may be past its best by date.

I have bought it a couple times here in Georgia. Great brew and I am pretty sure it was $10.99.

Boulevard made a Stingo last year that is as good as Sam Smith's, which is excellent. It's about the same price for a 750. It's still on shelves around MA at the very least.

I had it on tap at a bar in OK City last month and it was outstanding. I also found a bottle of it to bring back.

You won't find very many in this country that have that type of flavor, and particularly very few that are made in this country. Many will be lower in ABV but have a similar flavor profile.
You should search out Fuller's 1845 and Adnams Broadside. I think you'll see the same root profile in there. Less available if at all, some of the Fuller's Past Masters series (1966 Strong, XX Strong, Old Burton Extra, etc).
Also worth a shot for you is Yards' Thomas Jefferson's Tavern Ale. In a pinch, buy a bottle of Wychwood King Goblin and see what you think of it.
Finally, there is a small brewery called Black Sheep in Yorkshire area that has put out a 20th anniversary strong ale called Progress. Very good and exactly what you are looking for. Not sure if it comes to this country although several Black Sheep beers do, but you might be able to trade for it (brewery sells it from their website, but will not ship to US).

these beers age just fine, Boulevard is a little conservative with their best by dating.
some '09 and '10 Sammy Stingos are floating around here and they are delicious

Many British Winter Warmers share qualities of Stingo; you might try some of those.

SS Stingo is about £6 in Belfast, so if it's around $10 where you are, you're not really losing out.

Price is the same in NYC.
Comparable US beers that are distributed to RI will be rare.
Considering the overlap between "English strong" and old ales - You might enjoy Fuller's Vintage Ale.

I've never had Stingo, but I'd try McEwan's. To me, it's a lot like a dark belgian w/o the yeast character. It has a lot of dark fruitiness to it.

I was also going to recommend Fullers 1845, but you wont get the oak hint that Stingo has.

If you know anyone in or around Tucson, AZ, have them get you some Nimbus Old Monkeyshine. Tons of dark, dried fruit and treacle flavor. I don't think they distribute outside the state, though.

Good to know. I tasted the Collab 3 when it first came out. Excellent. Some bottles are still around.

Great stuff everyone, thanks. I absolutely love Sam Smith's Stingo aqnd that's saying a lot when it's coming from a low abv lager-lover like myself.

Wish I could help you out. This is one I'd like to try but if I recall correctly it was around $13+ and I didn't want to pull the trigger. Maybe it's time I buy some and try it!

Truthfully, the price point makes me walk away too. I only tried it because I got a sample at a beerfest and it blew me away. I am curious if there's cheaper brews that embody the same greatness.
