Was 15 on tap? I remember having it at the discount fest but not at CW. Here's the schedule.

I think they were running more than one beer for part of the time at CW's "Special Tappings" station. IIRC we were waiting in line for the Bourbon Cherry, which my wife wanted, and I overheard someone in front of us talking about it and I asked and got the Fifteen instead. (Not a big fan of cherry anything.)

Gotcha. I was a little strapped for time that day so I pretty much got my BG, drank some Toppling Goliath and headed out.

I had 16 at the Great Amherst Beer Festival & at FOBAB. It was an awesome beer both times. It was pulled out of the barrel early for GABF and probably same for what was at FOBAB. So much bourbon flavor. It's hard to compare to 15, as the only 15 I've had was about 6 months old already. I expect 16 will mellow out over time and develop more caramel/vanilla flavors, similar to 15 & the regular CW bourbon barrel stout. 16 was aged in 21 year bourbon barrels, and I'm not sure about 15. The tour guide at CW told me that 16 was double-barrel aged, so I don't know. It's good. Everything barrel aged from CW is good. I'm going to buy some.

Sixteen was my first stop @ FoBAB, it was great, a little hot, hope that will cool down a little, but even if it doesn't by jan 25, a couple months in the cellar should do it.

1414 and 15 were aged in 14 year old barrels.

I'm hoping this will be a little thicker than their other BA Stouts. I've spoken to the owner of CW on a number of occasions about this beer and one of the things they specifically tried doing with this beer was to make it thicker as they know that has been one of the few (but common) complaints people have made about their BA stouts.

I will be attending for the first time, bringing the wife. Booked a hotel already at the Hampton. Pretty pumped!
Finally had 15 at a bottle share a few weeks ago. Very good!

Is this a brewery only release or does it see distribution around WI too?

    1414 & 15 were brewery-only. 16 will probably be the same.

I personally thought it was a little thicker than 1414 or 15 (having had both within a week or two of fobab). I also had it next to bbpt5 which is just an amazing beer, but thought sixteen was pretty tasty

I grew up 15 minutes from the brewery. I am coming anyway. This is a win win, especially beating the fibs to the bottles.

Central Waters bba stouts tend to be a bit thinner than the big imperial stouts that most breweries age in barrels. My guess is that the base beer is around 8% rather than the 10-11% other breweries use. Their barleywine, however, has as huge mouthfeel, and barrel ages extremely well.

i agree. i'll probably get some flak for this, but my original quote when i said i felt the same was more towards
the second quote i meant to say that i had it about midway through fobab. i agree though, the Central Waters stuff is not as thick as other stouts, which is great (i like both)

I had it pretty early at FOBAB, maybe 4th pour, and there was something off. Really strong Oak and something else (I dare note say the "I" word). I don't actually think there was infection, but then again with their record on Peruvian Morning it shouldn't suprise me. All this said, disclaimer is that the pour right before was BA Abraxas, so maybe the pepper and spices tainted my taste buds.. Still though 1414 was awesome, maybe I just had an unfair expectation
