What other shops? I was there a couple of weeks ago and it is still overpriced. I left empty handed.

Sorry guys, didn't mean to commit the cardinal sin of not turning every Sac thread in to an anti-Pangaea thread. I had noticed the bottle prices had gone down (not the drafts) in recent months, that's all. It's one of 3 or 4 dedicated craft bottle shops in Sacramento proper, and I wouldn't dissuade someone who was visiting from going there if they were looking for beers they couldn't get where they live.

I would. Part of being an 'advocate' is helping people find the right beers at the right places. Anytime anyone asks I will always tell them to go to Davis Beer Shoppe, or the Nugget, or somewhere else...and to avoid Pangaea if at all possible. The prices they charge are completely offensive. You can't charge such absurd prices and not expect the beer geek community to be vocal about it, and steer people to better establishments.

The only people who can change the way we feel about Pangaea are the guys from Pangaea. I will not stop voicing my opinion about them. Anytime Anybody asks about sac stores, I make sure to tell them to avoid this place, I am just doing my part.

Has your friend tried Raley's? My Raley's in Folsom and in EDH expanded their 22 oz selection and the prices aren't bad either. Total Wines is great, but CHECK THE DATES. Nugget Market and Whole Foods market seem to have nice selections as well. I've never left any of these stores empty handed.

Thanks for the Pangaea discussion. I'd never heard of them before, and seriously doubt I'll ever go there. 8 oz pour??? For a 12 oz price? Passsssssssss....
Damn it's early to be thinking about IPA right now...

Capital Beer and Tap Room is probably the best place in Sacramento for craft beers. They have 20 beers on tap that are always rotating and it seems like every week they have a tap-takeover featuring rare beers that you just cant find anywhere else. Plus the people that work there are supper laid back and know their beers.

Honestly, you can find good craft beers all over Sacramento, there are small breweries constantly popping up and more and more grocery stores and bottle shops trying to hop on the craft beer bandwagon. But if your looking for a place that is fun to hangout at and has fresh awesome tasting beers on draft and wide variety of bottles to take home, I would say, "Theres no place like Capital Beer & Tap Room".

I went over to Pangaea on Thursday night to see what the prices were like and was pleasantly surprised that they seem to be inline with bars in Houston for size/price of pours. They were also very friendly and without even asking gave me samples of 5 different beers. The Lambic bar is pretty cool and I had a few lambics that I have never had before.

Prices for the bottles to go were inline with what I paid for stuff at Beer Craft and Bottle Barn in SR. They did not seem high or inflated at all.

Food sucked though.. the sandwich was really dry and tasted like old meat.

Overall I had a great time at Pangaea.

I also visited Bevmo and Total Wine on Arden were a bust for me as I did not see anything really exciting to grab.

Davis beer shop was really great... I could have spent a few hundred there easy!

I really wanted to hit Capital but was so tired when I left Pangaea and had to catch a 6 A.M. flight that I crashed at the hotel early..
