Just last week I noticed a great beer, Hop Rod Rye, has moved to six packs with only a $1 jump in price from the 4 pack!
I just saw a 12oz label approval on beerpulse.com for a longtime bomber only beer, Rubicon IPA; I can only assume that means they are going to go to six packs with that beer as well.
Flying Dog and New Belgium have both released new DIPA's in six pack format this past year.

I think these longtime brewers realized that beer geeks were willing to pay the money for a tick, but now need to compete price-wise with Sierra Nevada, Lagunitas, New Belgium, Stone, Deschutes, etc... to get the repeat six pack purchases.

I'd love to see Ruination and the Green Flash line back in six packs, as well as Alesmith make the jump for their regular lineup.

What do you think.... wishful thinking? or, with bigger/multiple breweries coming online and economies of scale increasing, is this a sign of things to come with more established breweries moving back to the six pack to compete?

This would be great, but I don't see many breweries jumping on this sadly :slight_frown:

All I know is that last week I could buy 12-packs of Sierra Nevada for $11.99 and that's hard to beat. I may like lots of other beers better, but SN is good enough (damned good) at that price. If other brewers can manage that type of pricing on flagship brands, I honestly feel that their business would increase and flourish throughout the brand- specifically to the more profitable smaller production items. Win Win.

Six packs throughout the industry would be righteous!! More bottle caps to save!

I think in general craft is trending towards the 4 pack. I think it's wishful thinking on the OPs part.

I think if they are able to produce a consistent product at a higher volume while being able to maintain fixed costs(economies of scale) then yes they should start to switch. It would make business sense and would make all of us consumers a lot happier.

Lakefront is moving more towards 4 packs. IBA and Bridge Burner from bombers to 4 packs and Holiday Spice from 6 packs to four packs (& a dollar more! WTF?). Also seeing a lot of Evil Twin four packs instead of single bottles. Victory is another one, changing their old DIPA 6 packs to 4s and Storm King from 6 to 4.

Jack's Abby moving Hoponius Union to 6-packs resulted in a slight price cut - all good.

I'd rather have 4packs if the price increase has to be built in somehow.

And Flying Dog Horn Dog was in 6ers this year from 4 packs last year.

I've seen the opposite. More 6pks moving to 4pks. Some with the same price even... They don't understand the more they charge per ounce, the less likely I am to buy their beer when there are new breweries popping up all the time. Greed & profit margin. Not like these breweries are struggling to stay open.

Seeing more breweries go to six packs would be OK with me!!! I had been buying beer in six packs for so long, when I got into craft and found 4 packs I kinda felt ripped off. I've found some really good deals lately at my local beer store, but I considered buying some Ten Fidy the other day, since I've never had it, and it was like $14 a four pack!
Thats a little steep for me.

This is the marketing rationale. We don't see any Lagunitas 4-packs yet.

If you're going home with one variety case of beer, paying the same price per ounce, would you rather have 4 sixpacks or 6 fourpacks? Lot of places don't do single bottles.

But where do the 32 oz bottles fit in? Same rationale.

Kegerator must be the answer. I just know that breweries go to 4-packs when they up the price to wholesalers. I've always avoided buying 12 oz. singles because lots of times they are the old ones. I buy many different beers and rarely do I have to suffer through a whole 4 or 6 pack. Cheers.

    I think it's a trick.

The same trick. Charging you near twice as much as they were by cutting back on the total ounces. They added a novelty bottle into the mix hoping it would hide the bullshit smell.

Everything Founders comes into our store more expensive than Brooklyn Stuff. The case difference in price is $14 dollars. BCS is $36 a case, BS is $50. I've seen some stores gouge on pricing but that's usually obvious. I saw a place with BS for $15 bucks a 4 pack before. Plus there's one distributor in MA that seems to be slightly higher than others so their beers are slightly higher.
