Well that Sucks about the pricing. I bought cases of this last year at $9.99/6 pack. At this price, I'll pick up a couple of bottles and that's it. It's a shame because Sucks was one of my favorite IPAs.

And will probably collect dust after a few months on the shelves. Sixers should be out again in December.

Is there truth behind that? It will be back in 6 packs in December?

I know the bottle format has been talked to death, but now that I've seen photos of the bottles, I have a new reaction to them, not necessarily positive, but different than I thought I'd have. It's actually a bit of repulsion: that much beer--of any beer--looks kind of vulgar and unappetizing. It reminded me of something . . .

When I lived in SF prior to moving to L.A., there was a small bakery that made amazing (killer) bear claws. They were pretty small, about the size of your palm, but were the best pastry I ever put in my mouth: super dense, complex, and totally satisfying. They won all kinds of "Best Of" awards from local magazines, etc. After about a year, one of their commercial accounts requested that they start making them bigger for resale in their cafe, and the bakery literally started making them twice as big. When I went into the bakery right after they went on sale, my first thought was, "gross." I bought one anyway, but never again. Within two months, sales were so low that they reverted back to the original, perfect size.

I'm fully expecting a lot of adolescent brah comments about manning up and sucking down the Sucks, but I'm not going to be surprised if customers vote with their wallets on this one. There can be, as the cliche goes, too much of a good thing.

So...it's the size of a half growler. I haven't physically seen the new format yet, but I can say from past experience, a nice night with Sucks is a 2 or 3 bottle session. I can see one of these fulfilling that role nicely.

Most all Safeway's in the East Bay should have them now in addition to Bevmo and Whole Paycheck.

:rolling_eyes:These folks enjoying a quart of Lucky Lager don't strike me as "vulgar" (and they're being patriotic, to boot!).

For me, buying a growler (even a half growler) is a totally different thing: for a party, sharing with friends. I usually also have a choice of buying that beer (or something similar) in a smaller bottle, even a bomber. Not expecting everyone to feel the same way about this, but just looking at that quart bottle (scroll up the thread to see one) turns me off.

I personally don't want a 32 oz bottle of beer.

Sixers were stacked up in local bottle shops for at least 4-6 weeks in my neck of the woods. I'm guessing these pricey bottles will stick around even longer.

I'm ok with the 32oz format but NOT as a replacement to 6 packs, and definitely not if the 32's end up costing $10 here in CT which I am sure they will, at an absolute minimum. I'll wait for the 6'ers, if they're coming.

Explain the logic of a distributor to me? They will put way too much sucks in the out of the way bottle shop where it will sit until the next year, but none in the local grocery where everyone would buy it. Maybe not an entire palate of the stuff but the local wegmans saw dirtwolf literally fly off the shelf. The same would happen with sucks. I am pretty confident.

I wonder if maybe it's Weggie's more so than the distributor. You see those pallets of Bells they had a couple weeks back? Looks like they're getting more and more hip to the fact that this craft sh!t will sell.

Is drinking two pints in sitting really much to asks of BAs?

It is going to be in both 32's and 6-packs so I don't see why everyone who doesn't like/want a 32 is making a big deal about it.
