My wife drinks good beer, but is definitely less interested in exploring new things. She likes what she likes and is excited about something new that fits her wheel-house, but not necessarily ever looking for something new.

As a lady craft drinker, the majority of beer geeks I surround myself with are also women. The person who got me into craft was my roomate and her girlfriend. Once I had it I realized that I do enjoy beer.

My brother is starting to drink beer. He was a wine and liquor ho. Granted it is light beer but now he is not opposed of having sips of what I'm drinking (he does like stouts) and he will even drink a wheat beer on occasion. It not great but hey its a start.

My city has a chapter of Girls Pint Out, a national organization for women into craft beer. I'm hoping my wife will join, but her work schedule never seems to fit in with their local events.

Lady (craft) beer drinker here. I think it's cool that local breweries generate some excitement, pride, and a sense of community that is inclusive of everyone. That's where it seems to be easiest to break down those demographic stereotypes. Though, they are mostly youngish. And caucasian.

I think you've only just recently looked up from your own glass at the people around you, maybe for the first time.
The women have been here all along.

I've never seen a girl up close, but one that drinks craft beer would be awesome

Someone mentioned something like 40% of festival attendees are girls. That doesn't mean that they necessarily wanted to go however, they may have just been going along with their boyfriend. I'd be interested in seeing the percentage of girls vs men, who are members here on BA (does anyone know and have anyway to show that?). I could be way off but my guess would be closer to 70/30 men to girls, not 60/40. But like I said before, girls drinking is never a bad thing.

    Where "here"? :grimacing:

Incidentally, often I hear this about beer from... European drinkers; that they "Don't like American beers"

"I love surprising guys when I want a strong, hoppy beer or a unique sour."
This comment proves that you are not only acknowledging, but embracing, the stigma. You can't have it both ways.

Girls generally have better palates (and sense of smell) than most guys do. It's surprising more girls aren't into good beer.

She used to hate beer, but gave it a chance after she heard how enthusiastically I spoke about various styles. She really liked wheats at first, then all belgians, then barleywines, stouts, sours, etc. Just getting around to hops though.

I think you hit the nail on the head with this one.

I know plenty of people, including women who are very passionate/knowledgeable about beer but that doesn't mean they are on BA, nor do they have to be to be a part of the percentage that likes good beer.

Actually, that means I love to prove I break the stigma they hold. I love proving that loving beer has no gender. Kinda like when I bench press. Ooh look, girl can lift heavy things! It is more about showing that the stereotype is wrong and I love being the harbinger of that news.

Oh, if my girlfriend loved beer. It would certainly make it easier when she's out of state and I ask her to find things for me.

Although, I am grateful she doesn't. I don't have to worry about beer turning up missing.

And some of the boys (men?) may be BMC drinkers who tagged along with their GF. What is your point?

oh man that awesome ding guy deleted his post on why women shouldn't drink craft beer because its not feminine... too bad, would have been fun to share!

i work in a large craft brewery where i give tours and can count on more than both hands incidents where ive been treated differently by tour goers simply because im a woman. it sucks.

Being surprised a female likes craft beer is like being surprised a girl likes a bacon cheeseburger. I know many females in my age group (late 20's- early 30's) who love craft beer yet don't drink a lot of it as they don't want to get fat. The same reason why they don't eat 3-4 bacon cheeseburgers a week. Men on the other hand seem more than willing to sacrifice their six pack for.....a six pack.

I can vouch for the same. But from being on the tour and being talked down to because I am a woman. Obvi I was just there to keep my dude company.
