At the brewery. It's also ridiculous how hard it is to get the W12 while the westy blonde you can order after 5mins of calling.

I was barely old enough to legally drink when the Westy bricks came stateside, and I certainly didn't have the spare cash to drop on one even had I been able to get myself from college in Albany to one of the retail outlets that received them, most of which were in NYC.

Still kinda wish I had, though, as I'd dearly love to get my hands on a bottle or two...but student loans and all the many other pleasantries that come with being a bona-fide adult currently rule out even seeking W12 out locally, let alone hopping on a plane :slight_frown:

I think the wooden crate might be my favorite thing in my house.

There was a BA event a while back where about 3500 people put money together, chartered a plane, and flew the monks from Abbey Sint Sixtus to a secret location in the US. The monks brewed Westy 12 using all authentic ingredients they brought with them and each person who put in the money got 3 bottles (1 to drink, 1 to trade, 1 to age). Every single one of them wrote a review on BA.

Never got to try it.:slight_frown: For those who have tried it would you say it's better fresh or aged?

I bought it at a bottle shop that resells them. They always have them, granted at a VERY big markup. I bit the bullet once just to try, since I am not into trading as of yet. In a tasting with Pannepot, Abt 12, Rochefort 10, Chimay Blue, and La Trappe, I rated it second to Pannepot. Needless to say, I reach for Pannepot when I want a quad.

Honestly, I think the fresh ones I had were better than the aged ones. We did a tasting recently of 03 Westy 12, 03 Rocquefort 10, and 06 Stille Nacht. Still Nacht was hands down, the winner. I wasn't too impressed with aged Roquefort or Westy.

I have a 3 year old bottle that I will probably crack at some point next year. Promised the wife I would wait until she is able to drink again being that it is also her favorite beer.

Save yourself some time and money and buy some Rochefort 10, it is way better than the bottle I had from a brick.

Best Damn Beer Shop in SD had them. Got 6 @ $5 each in the brick. Of course the 2 glasses that came with it were $35 each, but they are so cool, and have the logo on them. That is how I rationalized spending $100 on beer. They are supposed to have more during their Black Friday sale next week

I got mine from a guy my dad works with, who made a trade with a guy who went to the abbey. I just got lucky!

My most interesting (and extremely lucky) beer find of all time was when I stayed at the St. Bernardus brewery's guest house in 2010 and opened the mini fridge in the room to see three (yes three) Westy 12s accidentally left behind by the previous occupant!! Simply amazing...
