Hey everyone, never been to a tasting and wondering where the Houston ones are, and how they work? Do you just bring a few traded beers and everyone shares?

    Thanks for the help

Hey man, we do stuff on the 2nd Sunday of the month in the afternoon. Last month was at Hay Merchant, but historically it was at the Gingerman. Here is the thread for the last tasting. http://beeradvocate.com/community/threads/houston-regular-tasting-april-15th.8499/ There was probably 12-15 people there and you can see the bottles that were shared. If you don't have much rare stuff or traded beers just bring a cool locally available one that you have aged or just something ridiculous like Rogue Voodoo Doughnut that no one would ever want to finish a whole bottle of. Everyone is real friendly and makes it a great time. Houston BAs are the cream of the crop!

Two Rules: 1) Bring something the bar does not have, 2) Support the bar, either by buying beer/food, or generous tip.

Pretty simple and always a good time.

90% of the time it will be at The Gingerman on the second Sunday of the month.

Howza 'bout doin' the next one on May 20 instead of May 13? That way, no conflict with Mother's Day and I'll be in town.

The 20th is better for me too. Won't be too bummed if not since I am probably going to 2 other bottke shares this month in addition.

I would love to do the 20th, is there a particular style you have to bring?

No, just good beer  About every quarter they set up a style tasting and rent out the upstairs at the Saucer downtown. Every monthly tasting is just a free for all to share beers.

I'll put in my vote for the 20th, as well. I'm not sure if we have any style-specific tastings planned for the near future... Who really plans these things, anyways?

I'm out for the 20th, next Sunday would have been better for me, but all is good, there will always be next month.

I get in from Penang at 2:30 on the 20th. Maybe I can talk the wife to driving straight to the tasting. :grinning:

I think whoever jumps onto planning first plans them. habits also formed long before I came into the picture.
What is the location for the 20th?

The 12th would work for me, my Mom is 1100 miles away in Illinois :slight_frown: so I would rather have a few beers if I can't be home with the family. Though if the 20th works better for everyone, then that is when it should be. Usually the "official" thread is started the week before. Maybe Show or I will post something next week. No theme planned for this one, Belgians are coming up but no date has been set yet, as far as I know.

I think they had discussed May being Belgians, though I cannot verify that myself.
If so, I am slightly sad I will miss it, I had a '10 Pannepot and '07 limited edition N'Ice Chouffe planned. I will gladly bring them another time though. Unless it DOES end up being the 12th. I will follow along and see how it plays out.

The style tastings are usually in addition to the regular monthly ones. Nothing has been confirmed for either yet, so I dunno how it will go down.
