Yeah, the sweetness of the blackberries knocked down the tartness. Overall I would have bought our beer. The 50/50 blend was really good too.

Ok, earlier today for a party here I did Grey Monday with dried cherries, fresh blackberries, and black peppercorns.

And Black Tuesday with just a splash of Oude Tart to bloom 90 Plus Hachira N2 coffee, and dried cherries, cinnamon, and red pepper flakes.

Now I've combined what's left of the two after they've been infusing for 12 hours. Yow, I wouldn't trade this for anything.

Did Patrick say what exactly they intend to do with the winning blend? Include within next year's HS allocations? Offer it as a taproom offering from their pilot system? Or nothing planned other than just a fun HS event each year?

Too bad the best blend didn't win. :slight_frown: Seems like The Bruery wanted something different.

I didn't get to taste them but I don't think I would have chosen a OT/Rueze mix either. I do wonder if cost is a factor because some of the others posted contain nearly all $30/bottle beers while the winner was composed of significantly less costly beers. I am sure the event was a blast and I am hoping for an invite to the next one but I think another good way to go about it would be holding a creative input contest where everyone submits an idea, they pick a few finalists and poll the HS. Then they make the winner using their best judgement to tweak it into production (ie amount of fruit or slight tweaks to component percentage)

Yeah, that's how I thought they were going to do it when I first heard about it.

Yeah, I love the idea and hope to participate next year, but I just wonder if The Bruery went into the event wanting something a bit different than a BT blend. That's fine and all, but won't lie about my disappointment.

Melange 9 is not included in our package of beers and based on them not being afraid to price bottles at 40, I see no logic to them trying to keep costs down for the blend.

My favorite is a little Tecate with a smidgen of lime, a kiss of salt, and a half of a sequoa of South Eastern Broward County 6 week old shade grown Tangerines. Fucking kicks ass.

We made a blend of 40% Sour In the Rye, 40% Anniversary, and 20% Black Tuesday, and added grated & pressed fuyu persimmon (the firm one) and seeped it w/ toasted sesame seeds. I brought very ripe, glowing hachiya persimmons (the soft ones... much sweeter) from my back yard, but more folks in my group wanted to use the other variety of persimmon. We thought it was damn good, but maybe the persimmons put off the judges, as that is not the easiest fruit to deal with, nor attain, without incurring great cost and especially the variety I brought are like water balloons ready to pop.

Hmm, I'm still trying to figure out what place my group received. I wasn't in your group and I wasn't in Retsins group as we didn't submit either of those blends. Yet I recently got a box with a SitR and Hoarders glasses and an email saying it was for the teams that placed.

Did anyone else get the same box?

Some one on the other site some one posted about receiving a similar box, unless of course that was you posting on both.
