On the Belgian market, exemplars are obviously St. Bernie, also Watou, and I might throw Dupont’s Blanche de Hainaut in there. But until thinking about, I hadn’t really realized how many places make a decent one — Blanche des Honnelles from Abbaye des Rocs, Trouffette d’Eté from Bastogne, Blanche de Namur (Bocq, had to look that up) and de Bruxelles (Lefèbvre), Brunehaut.... Silly’s Titje is OK but suffers a mental markdown from me b/c of their not-that-well-done version with grapefruit in it. I will defend the honor of Hoegaarden as it’s still a go-to quencher and ubiquitous, and I'd do say the same for Brugs wit.

Now for the Americans, seeing all that’s listed enticingly here, is the style now fairly easy to find? And usually a good choice or usually something thrown onto the list in case of customers who can’t decide what they want?

I'm kinda bummed that the witbier style doesn't seem to get much love around here. My only complaints about Hitachino Nest is that it's not widely available in my area and it's pricey at nearly $5 for an 11.2 oz bottle. Other wise it's amazing, definitely in my top 5.

Witbiers are plentiful, but not as popular as other styles. Hoegaarden (which is solid) is on pretty much every grocery store shelf, and there are plenty of Belgian and North American witbiers to choose from in most bottle shops; one of the best wits I've had just so happened to be from Japan. From what I've collected there is a lot more IPA love than anything else in the US among beer enthusiasts (which is fine as there are many exceptional IPA's available and it is more or less the defining American style), but wits are definitely not just used as shelf fillers to cater to indecisive customers!

Personally, witbiers and other wheat-based ales are among my favorite styles.

I was going to say the exact same thing, don't hear much about Witbiers so this thread is def an interesting one. It is pricey but worth it considering the country and the quality.

St. Bernardus Tokyo is my personal World Class witbier. They need to make that again because it was completely INSANE. Allagash White is the only one that is close to it, but most would agree. Southampton Double White is up there too.

One of my favorite styles. The best one I had so far was De Glazen Toren Jan De Lichte and I don't know if a witbier can get any better than that.
