maybe all the SBS members bought all the Sour Reserve 4? I know they were allowed to buy 3 bottles of each. but it's definitely changed the lottery....

They were probably taken by persimmon redemptions.

got a response from upland - "SR4 was reserved out by SBS members & persimmon redemptions, although if we have some left over after pickups we may release them for sale to the public at the end of the end."

Did not expect this to fail, just saying it is BULLSH!T!!!

And for that matter, so is the fact that they let people proxy on pickups. If Upland wants to distribute around the country then f'ing do it. They could easily sell the full production release of ALL of their sours if they sent them to the markets to which they currently distribute.

The online lottery is fine, but the SBS just leaves less available for all of the people who have supported Upland since the beginning.

HAHAHAHAHAHA I rarely post here anymore, but this makes me laugh. It's not like that Society closed in 15 minutes or anything. Its been available for weeks, and now you are mad that the people who looked past the short comings of it, are being rewarded? Really?

You had plenty of time to sign up if you wanted, can't complain now.

I have thought it was bullshit from the beginning, that's why I did not buy a membership Sr. Smartypants. I've been mad about this since I heard of it.

The people who bought memberships didn't "look past the shortcomings" of the program, they paid almost $60 per sour.

And as a consumer, yes, I can complain now, and now, and now, and whenever I want.

There is an opportunity to get about 40 bottles in 2014 (including the 8 guaranteed bottles), not to mention 9 for this release. That said, you actually end up paying about an extra $5/bottle.

Yup. And you actually get the bottles.

I am not a member, didn't work into my budget. But no one can complain about not having the opportunity to get your hands on the bottles. You did, and passed.

I opened a bottle of strawberry lambic FOBAB weekend. No explosion. No gushing. The strawberry lambic was actually fantastic. Are you just playing off the bad rap that Strawberry lambic got from the previous batch?

Yeah, that's it. It wasn't the $25 I wasted at all.

What the hell kind of question is that?

What would I gain from lying about an Upland lambic being explosive? I had already expressed my complaints with the bottle I had, and despite the bottle being a complete gusher I still rated it at 4.25/5.

That math is flawed. The only way you end up paying an extra $5/bottle is if you buy every sour that you have access to purchase.

So 40 bottles x 32.25 = $1290. Economies of scale go down the less you buy.

What got Upland to the point it is at, what gave them the opportunity to create a secret barrel society, is in part the support of its loyal customer base. Now people who have supported the brewery since they started making sours in '06, and since they were founded in 1998 under previous ownership, lose the chance to purchase beers like SR4 since the SBS gets first crack at it if they do not have the $250 to "donate" to Upland for them to further build their sour program.

I should have said that your math makes an assumption. It is correct if you purchase all available bottles. However, your math does make a pretty big assumption.

Yeah, I was assuming a good share of the people would buy most of the bottles they have access to. Doesn't work for people who only want to buy a few or folks who don't want to spend 1,200 at one brewery....but for people who will buy them all, it's not as bad as the initial $60/bottle sounded.
