When I had this on tap i thought that the hops complimented the malts perfectly. Spicy and citric goes well with the warm caramel backbone. Now I wish I had one.

Hey all, hope you have had a great week and an enjoyable Sunday! Chilly down here in Louisiana, but nowhere near as cold as it will be when I head home to see my folks in Rhode Island on Wednesday. Can't wait to get my hands on some New England brews…and of course see my family!

Despite the cold weather, I opted for a "tropical" IPA for my first today. CCB is always enjoyable for me, and this one didn't disappoint:

Cheers, and I hope to catch you all again later on!

Continuation of the New local Sunday

St. Lenny's by Cathedral Square (collaboration with Schmaltz)
    http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/262/98616/?ba=kemoarps

When I was at the good-things-in-a-bottle store yesterday to pick up this week's enjoyments, a rep from Cathedral Square (or was it a brewer? Don't know, it was pretty crowded, so I didn't get a chance to talk much with him) was pouring samples. Reasonably impressed, I figured I'd include this as one of my selections for today, a: because it was tasty, b: in case they track the sales of their specific brewery for the days that they come demo/something similar, and c: because I've been wanting to infuse a little local flavour into my options since it's kind of hitting me that I'm over halfway through my stay in the show-me state. I didn't realize at the time that it was a collabo with Schmaltz. I figured they were both canonizing Lenny Bruce, just didn't realize the immaculately collaborated nature of the beer. I haven't explored belgian IPAs toooooo thoroughly, so I can't speak on how it relates to others of the style, but suffice to say I was surprised early on by the apple and sweet lemon. It all came together really nicely by the finish, though. I wish we had grabbed one of these while my sister was here: I think she would really have enjoyed it. Maybe I'll just have to ship her one...
The mercury is dropping again, and it's not expected to be above freezing for the next couple of days. Tomorrow morning is going to be fun. At least I have the liquid sustenance to take care of me and keep me warm! Cheers all,

    >>>>>> New Brown Ale Sunday <<<<<<

Greeting from the great Northwest. Clearing out the fall beers so today it's a brown ale from Diamond Knot.
    http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/1590/5522/?ba=RJLarse

To be honest the flavor is a bit off for a brown. It has a weird caramel, vinegar and dill aroma and flavor.

Clear and cold here in the Columbia Basin. Bright sunshine, but temps only in the upper 30's.

I spent part of the afternoon bottling a milk stout. Very promising and it should be drinkable just in time for Santa's big night.

In keeping with the clearing out of fall, I'm drinking the O'fests that are left, and have the sauerbraten going in the dutch oven. So long Oktoberfest!

    New Double IPA (not really)

West MI just saw the shortest fall ever. We've already ushered in light snow and ice. It was a good day to stay inside and get some work done from the laptop.

Having forgot my previous experiences with this brewery, I had high hopes for today's beer. I was quite disappointed. At 6.8%, I think the imperial name tag was misleading. I can't say it was bland, but it certainly was missing something.

Time to pour something more familiar and wash it from memory, and my taste buds.

Apples in Belgians isn't that unusual. Cuvée Van De Kaizer Blauw from Het Anker is very Green Apple dominate in aroma. And hits heavy on the first sip. Cheers!

I am weary from trying any DB brews. But that could change. Because here in Baltimore we have Union Brewery and I enjoy their Duck Pin Pale ale. It isn't anything earth shattering but the aroma on that beer is world class! Tropical fruits and flowers makes this beer for me.

    New American Porter Sunday

    Greetings NBS,

Southern, CT and most of the northeast offered its first real taste of winter today with winds that made the temps feel in the mid-teens. A gorgeous day otherwise.

We spent the weekend in the greater Philadelphia area with friends and family where I scored some future NBS topics of study.

Last night was particularly notable when we spent the night with good friends and let the kids hang out. My buddy and I knocked down some fantastic brews including Expedition Stout, Racer X, and probably most notably a De Molen Disputin from 2009.

Anyway, on to New Suede Sunday (Stone):

I probably sound like a broken record on here, but again, if you can look past the traditional style guidelines and really put your senses into what ingredients were used, this is a cool beer.

Given the weather, and my excitement for the Holidays, I had to crack open a Christmas beer. A pretty solid one here from St. Arnold, I like most of their stuff:

    NEW AMBER ALE SUNDAY

    Hello All!

I moved from New Jersey to Milwaukee area of Wisconsin a few weeks ago, so I've been trying beers local to Wisconsin lately. (Some have been better than others, as expected.) I found a VERY good one from Ale Asylum. My first from this brewery, and I am VERY pleased. (I was between a 4.25 and a 4.5 for overall and went with the higher.) Looking forward to trying more Wisconsin beers!

    Update:

Evil Twin Imperial Break Biscotti Natale: Nowhere near as good as the original but still a pretty damn tasting beverage. Not sure I'd search this out again.

New Glarus Fat Squirrel: It's a brown ale, that said I don't like it. Way too malty for my tastes, can't knock New Glarus for trying something different but yeah one of my least favorite styles and unlike Surly's Coffee Bender (which was new to me last Friday) this doesn't steer from the traditionalist path.

Might just pound some Zombie Dust until I pass out. Sunday Funday everyone.

New Sour Sunday? Don't mind if I do. (and yes, this beer was consumed when it was still officially Sunday)

La Folie is one of my staple semi-common sours, so I had high hopes for Le Terroir when I managed to land a couple bottles last month. The idea of dry hopping a sour seems an odd one, but the reviews are strong enough around these parts that I can't imagine that it's a bad equation.

Mild head, the type of cloudy look and funky aroma I'd expect for the style. The sour and hop characters play interestingly together, the sour funk being the far more prevalent with the hops almost mellowing (or at least playing against) the sour in a way I wouldn't expect. The end result isn't my favorite, but the sour base stands up to some of the better ones I've had recently.

    Cheers all.

Had 2 new beers to me. The Sierra Nevada Northern Hemisphere Harvest Ale. This beer blew me away. So crisp and drinkable with so many great flavors rushing through your mouth. The 2nd new beer was Jai Alai from Cigar City. That IPA is certainly an experience. So citrusy and fruity with a great hop bitterness that is countered by an unusual sweetness for the style.

Devil's Backbone makes a lot of solid to great beers. They have been racking up awards the last few years at American and World beer festivals. The 8 Point is a solid IPA that is easy to drink. Their Vienna Lager is on the amazing side. Their seasonal out now is Kilt Flasher, a wee heavy that is very nice. Also, highly recommend the Schwartz Bier and Belgian IPA; Congo.
