i dont really get how this could be considered a winter/holiday ale when its a ipa.i thought ipa's were more of a summertime thing

Agree w you. St. Bernardus Christmas Ale and Delirium Noel are hard to beat for a Christmas brew. If all I wanted was another IPA, Sierra Nevada Torpedo is better than Celebration, and Bells Two Hearted is better than both of them. "Bells" is a more appropriate holiday name too.

Its an IPA to celebrate the Holidays..hence the name"Celebration". Why do hops only have to be enjoyed in the summer? Is ther some rule to drinking beers infused with them I missed? Besides, my turkey tastes extra special when accompanied by these!

Bro, Anchor Christmas is highly rated. A 94/98 is a good score. Probably would be a little higher too if they didnt change the recipe every year.

It's SN Celebration then everything else. I've grown pretty tired of the boiler plate spice cabinet beer that passes for holiday ale these days.

Deschutes' Jubelale. It has what you want in a holiday beer.

Wow, haven't drank, seen or even heard of Samichlaus in years (I was out of the craft scene for a while). Isn't is usually released every December 6? When I first got into craft beer I remember reading about it in the Michael Jackson books. Samichlaus was probably my first real beer hunt. Can't wait to get some this year!

I think there used to be a specific release date like you mention, but I don't know if it still occurs as a matter of formality. You can check your store and possibly find it now, although it may still be on the shelf from last year. This stuff is pricey and not always a sell-out.

If you've been away from craft beer for a while you'll need to be sure to watch which version of Samichlaus you buy. There is the Classic and a fairly new version that is a Helles.

And that's your preference :stuck_out_tongue: I'm partial to the green piney flavors of Celebration, or the piney citrusy Torpedo over 2hearted's citrus blast (not to say I don't enjoy 6-12 2H's per month) for an Anytime, Any place beer.
That's what hop-forward beers are to me- the bread and butter. They might not be essential to everyone, but I would sure miss them if they went missing

I may have my facts messed up but I always thought the Samichlaus ( theChristmas beer) was brewed one day a year (December 6; feast day of St. Nicholas) before it was aged for a few months (thinking 10 but, as noted, could be wrong) before being released. Recently found the bottle dated for 2012 on the shelf which should be the latest one brewed.
