Sebago Brewing Single Batch Barleywine

if they price it the same as last release (unlikely given all the love), i'm buying a case at least. and i'm a cheapskate who doesn't buy a case of anything (though overall i actually did buy > a case of the last release, but i mean i'll buy a case at once, and not trade a bottle). if this batch is even half as good as last one, it's a steal at the price they sell it for ($6 to $8).

 

I was at the brewery today and asked one of the brewers what they had coming up for single batches. Octoberfest will debut at their Octoberfest party two weeks from today. This beer is draft only. After that will be a Belgian Quad and he said the Barley Wine will probably be January or February.

 

"After 14 months in the barrel, Barleywine hits taps and is available in 22oz bombers today!"

 

Glad that at least someone is handling the yeast this way. Sounds delicious!

 

woodford reserve barrels, sebago's awesome barleywine... can't wait to jump on this.

 

I'm excited.

 

Had it on draft in Kennebunk. Between that and the M1000 and their wet hop on cask it was a damn good night

 

Is this brewery only or can I pick it up at my local beer store?

so how did the 2nd runnings beer turn out? surely it's gone by now (not like they would barrel age that one).

 

Maine release tomorrow, 11/22 for retail if that helps.

 

I picked up 3 bottles at the the Kennebunk location. Had it on tap there too. It's a beautiful beer. Also had a fish sandwich. The filet was about the length of my forearm. That was beautiful as well.

I'd pick this beer up if you get the chance.

 

did you have the previous version? any input on how they stack up?

the last iteration was excellent, and further was excellent for a long ass time. i bought about a case and drank it over several months. every single bottle was a joy to drink (sorry for silly wording).

 

Yes I had the previous version. It stacks up very,very favorably, imo. The longer time in the barrel worked out amazingly. From what I recall this year's seems a little less hoppy as well. (not that it was super hoppy anyways) It's quite complex and can still stand toe to toe with the big boys. I could definitely see some age on it doing some good things as well.

Does this hit distro in NH? If so, any recs on a spot in or around Manchester that might have it?

 

I can't recall ever seeing a sebago product at a store I've been in, but apparently I'm dead wrong
