Yeah, we know the West Coast doesn't get enough good beer as it is. It's a real shame you can't get some Founders.

I hope it is too, just for how funny that would be. This forum would explode in a black nuclear cloud of hatred.

So much hatred of a very good beer too. I love that shit.

Also, my only beef with Rubeaeaaeus is that it's not Cerise.

If you want more Mango Magnifico, there's plenty around here. BM me if you want.

I might go looking for some soon myself (I just traded away all but my last bottle for some Abraxas). I'm expecting to find it easily, but if not you'll be hearing from me.

I see your Founders and raise you Deschutes, Firestone Walker, and The Bruery. I would contend that all three of these breweries have a lineup of nearly equal quality down to a point of utter subjectivity with nearly equal distribution (beer rAvgs based only on bottled/distributed beers: Founders 4.17, Deschutes 4.02, Firestone Walker 4.13, and The Bruery 4.12). I say a point of subjectivity outside the obvious (this is all subjective) because they're so close in averages (besides the outlier, Deschutes) that one could easily prefer any of these other breweries despite the numbers.

Rubaeus is not a bad beer, but it's easily the weakest of Founders's offerings, and it's really nothing special even in the world of non-lambic fruit beers. I humbly propose New Glarus's fruit beer repertoire as a point of contention; their Raspberry Tart makes Rubaeus look silly in the same way that Belgian Red bested Cerise.

I agree with you on the FBS/KBS point, especially with KBS, though I have to wonder why Founders ever promised FBS year-round if it is cost-prohibitive to make in such large quantities or if they never intended to deliver on the promise. Personally, I'd much rather have FBS year-round than All-Day, but I can see how All-Day makes more sense as a year-round option (if only they could drop the price to reflect its session beer status).

Don't think that I don't appreciate Founders, because I do very much appreciate that I can get their beers whenever I want. Furthermore, this does not come out of bitterness for not being able to get their limited stuff, as I have had no problem doing just that in the past. I am sort of just playing devil's advocate to show that Founders is not the only brewery with great distribution that churns out consistently great beer across the board. I don't think they should be put on a pedestal alone, which is the impression I got from your post defying people to name breweries in the same league as Founders.

I don't even really like the beer, I just thought it would be funny if, of all their Backstage beers, they threw that one into rotation. Some men just want to watch the world burn.

Just saying. You can buy it all over the internet. All the barrel aged stuff that is. And they at least get stuff to Illinois and New York. Not even Cali sees Founders. I'm in AZ, so not really expecting to see it here soon.

I don't understand all the bellyaching about FBS - it seems to be almost a year round here anyways even on its 6 month schedule. Curmudgeon doesn't need to be a 3 month release though...as much as I like it, it does tend to sir.

IBUs is a good argument but I will take it in a different direction. Jeremy Kosmicki provided a recipe for KBS to either Zymurgy or Brew Your Own. The IBUs of the "base" beer in the recipe is lower than that of Imperial Stout. You will find a few other obvious differences between KBS and IS in that recipe too.

Firestone, great example. Mr. Brynildson had called Kalamazoo home earlier in his life, some may say Kalamazoo is where he got his foot in the door with the brewing industry, and we still see no Firestone. Now I do not know everyone from Founders but I am not aware of a connection that could trump that. West Coasters have no complaint.

How funny would it be if TBA ends up being a light beer. What better way to say "we will make CBS when we want to, not when you whine more".

I'd be happy if it wasn't the biggest ripoff in craft beer after being one of the best deals in craft beer last year. It's literally 2x the price now where I live.

Exactly! I'm pretty sure every package says brewed for us. If you don't love founders for their year round offerings stop buying all together. Do you know why your area isn't saturated with KBS come march? Its because people just wait for those beers to come out so they can chase trucks that week. Pick a store be loyal to them and founders boost their 6 pack Founders sales and they will get more limited skus. The consumer has a much bigger impact on supply than they realize. Find a store that has all the year round six packs give them your business, help them rotate in fresh Founders and you will be rewarded with a better chance at one offs. It really is that simple.

I can't believe I forgot to mention Stone, Boulevard, and AleSmith. They're definitely up there with high quality and huge distribution.

Not my intention at all. My point was simply that they make a fantastic array of amazing products, and to give them shit about the fact that their lineup may not be perfect is just crazy and ignorant.

And yes, I'll agree on the Firestone Walker point. Deschutes....I'm not sure of their overall distro, but I know I can't get them in MA. As for the Bruery, yes, they make amazing stuff, but they make some absolute garbage too, and charge insane amounts for all of it. And yet, they don't seem to catch the shit that Founders does.

They could print that on a label and people would still miss the point.

This is completely unsubstantiated puff but Blis was touring the Founders caves to see "their" barrels in action two weeks ago. Could be Sweet Respute, could be something different. [IMG]
