Plan on hitting up Tired Hands on Saturday. Any other suggestions for breweries and bottle shops in the area?

Pop over the border to State Line Liquors in Maryland. You can thank me later.

The beer at Tired Hands is great, but don't forget to order some bread. It is outstanding.

Even better, get a pickle plate (if you like pickles that is) and the bread comes with it.

You're not a true New Englander if you don't enjoy pickled vegetables.

Duck prosciutto and candied bacon at TH are outstanding as well.

If you think you might head down to Stateline, let me know and I'll give you instructions that will help you avoid the toll. Otherwise, getting to and from Stateline will set back $8, just in tolls (and for the privilege of driving just 5 miles to and from the store)

Take I95 southwest towards maryland. The last exit before actually crossing over into maryland is exit 1b towards Newark, Deleware, on hiway 896. Take that exit to the right. As you come up to the Chestnut Hill traffic light (roughly a half mile from the interstate exit, with a shell gas station on the right), stay in the right lane and go thru the traffic light, taking the cloverleaf turn to the right which will curl back onto W. Chestnut Hill, heading towards Maryland (Chestnut Hill essentially parrallels I95). Follow W. Chestnut hill for roughly two miles, until you hit Iron Hill Road (you can only turn right on Iron Hill Road, which you'll reach just before Chestnut hill deadends). Turn right on Iron Hill Rd and take it to where it ends at Elkton road (less than a mile drive). There on the left at the corner of Iron Hill Rd and Elkton is State Line Liquors (it's a blue building). Once you're done, take the same route back to I95 in Deleware.

If you go, be sure to go online and obtain a club membership. There's no cost to join and it will save you some serious money if you buy a lot of stuff (which you likely will, once you see the beer selection there). I live in Oregon now and I still never go anywhere without my State Line club card. Good luck!

If you're looking for the best place throw back a few beers, and enjoy great food, go to my favorite place Two Stones Pub in Newark (off Route 4). Worth it!

Other than piling on and recomending a stop at State Line, you might conside a stop at a local BarbBQue very near StateLine, it's best to get food to go: http://www.durhamsbestbbqmd.com/home.aspx

My favorite grog hangout when I lived in Newark was Stewarts Brewpub: http://stewartsbrewingcompany.com/

The Farmers market on rt 40 across from the New Castle airport is funky and full of strange people, some of my favorites are the fresh hot pretzels and a Stolzfus sausage sandwich. Downtown Old New Castle is kinda cool for a few hours.
    Prost- Have fun.

It's not, really. The prices on pours border on obscene.

Same here. We've been going once or twice a week almost since they opened and always enjoy the food, beer and service. We often meet our son at Naamans as well.

Be advised that State Line also has 20 taps on hand for growler fills. But now, per Cecil County law, they can only fill their own growlers. Tap list and pricing here: http://www.statelineliquors.com/beer/growlers.php (growlers not included, of course).

Well, the problem is there are fairly few places in the area dedicated to craft. You can find some offerings at some main street restaurants, or go to Iron Hill, but unless you drive a fair distance to Wilmington or Kennett Square you're stuck there paying for a $13 pour of Allagash. That's how they get away with it.

I second Durham's and also suggest the pizza at the farmers market.
