The first I had was Bell's Oberon back in college.. Didn't really care about it because I couldn't afford it. Victory Hop Devil really got me into craft though!

Same here. In the 70's it was my favorite beer, along with Heineken dark. However, is it a "craft beer"?

Guinness Stout in Ireland in 1980. In the Boston area at that time, Guinness was very difficult to find in stores or in bars. It was a great intro to a well-crafted beer- it was the best I have ever tasted of this beer.

Living in Atlanta during the late 90's/early 2000's I was lucky enough to try Sweetwater 420. Once I tried that I started trying all of their beers like Sweet Georgia Brown, IPA, ESB, and Blue. I was blessed with older friends who knew what was up and I feel lucky for that!

Samuel Adams Boston Lager. I read up on it online beforehand and so it was one of the first beers I bought from the monopoly once I turned 20 (I'd been drinking beer legally for two years by then). I was all about the German beers at that time and since Boston Lager was all malt I bought it to try it, since I was also fascinated by American beer. I wasn't really sure which beers were adjunct lager beers and which were all-malt, after having drunk alot of imported Danish extra strong beer for two years, so I stuck with the ones I knew were reinheitsgebot beers for some time (Beck's for a few years and then on to Bitburger and Jever).

Early 90's used to LIVE on Abita Turbodog....still pick a six up every now and then. Would get ripped off a sixer while my buddies drank Busch all night from cans...good times!

Actually Sam Adams Boston lager. Not a craft beer you say? It was then in the pre-Stone ages. What's that funny taste? Hops. What's hops? Something brewers rarely used. After spending my undergrad years drinking Iron City and Schmidt's and my military time swilling Colt 45 and Mustang, drinking something with flavor other than cat piss was Nirvana.
