It will be barely detectable (if at all) to the average palate underneath all of those hops.

My first reaction is that's way too much in the way of dark grains that will contribute a roasty flavor to what's still supposed to be a hop forward beer. I brewed a black double IPA that used 1/2lb each of Midnight Wheat and Carafa III special. I was happy with the subtle amount of roast, but I probably could have upped the Carafa to get it to be absolutely black rather than dark brown.

I brewed an 11g batch using 1# of carafa III special + 1# of midnight wheat. Great black color and tolerable, albiet a tiny touch too much roast character for my taste. Next 11g batch will be 12oz of each.

MY Black IPA came out EPIC, just the right about of roast, a bit of chocolate, not overly thick. And a huge citrus hop profile. Coming in at 7.8% I am going to tweek it a little and make it more chocolaty and lessen the cost by useing cheaper hops at the 60 and 30 markers, and subtracting the candi sugar. Thanks for the input guys.

There are at least "2 Carastans" also...one is ~ C-15 and the regular is ~ C-35 (Bairds)
