Good morning quarterbacks of quads and coaches of Kölsch! I hope this message finds you ready for another Sunday of all things good, fermented, malty or hoppy in your perfect pints, tulips, and flutes today!

Weather in Central OH today is cloudy and chilly. Glad we got the Christmas lights up a few weeks ago when it was still warm. Looks like it will warm up some this week but should be suitably chilly next weekend when we trek out to the forest and chop down the annual Crill Christmas tree.

Holy moly did I see some good football yesterday! I would love the chance to have a pint with my boy malty at Crunchy's in East Lansing next weekend when Sparty takes on my hometown Buckeyes. Alas, with the family and holiday festivities next weekend I will have to raise a pint of hometown Columbus IPA and wish him the best wherever he is.

Enough of my rambling for the day...today is the day and this is the place to try a NEW beer and TELL us about it right here! Pour yourself a bottle of something new to you and kindly add to the fun and magic that is NBS. All we ask of you is a GOOD description of what you sampled. Linked reviews, pics, and videos are always welcome.

I'm stuck with the Browns-Jacksonville game and Denver on the radio this afternoon so I think I will get caught up on laundry, chores, etc and check back here frequently to see what's going on. Good day and good drinkin'.

    Peace, love, and malty-ness,

    Matt

Matt I'll say it again - I love how you introduce this thread each week. As I am writing this am looking at a temporary warm up. We should see 40's this week and that's fine with me. I have nothing to do today except drink beer and watch cheesy movies on TCM.

Mad Elf By Troegs. I love troegs. I think they make some of the most finely crafted beer I have ever had. Smooth, without seams, delicate and a treat for all the senses. This one is no exception. It drinks like mead with a generous helping of honey and cherries and has a faint bit of spice to entreat the palate to each subsequent sip. Honey makes people feel happy and this beer made me very happy this morning. I love a nice big beer on sunday and while this was not the usual stout it was satisfying. Cheers NBS'ers and hope you all have a great day.

    Beer: Sofie

Had Sofie a couple of years ago at a GI tasting event at my local distributor. Being as how it was just a sample pour, I didn't review it or log it, other than noting it as a beer to return to when I could pay it more attention.
Has wine-like characteristics with flavors of peppery spice, lemongrass, and tart yeast, with a slight brett-ish undercurrent suggestive of that barnyard element.
Very nice. Will be interesting to see how it compares to the Crooked Stave St. Bretta I have lined up for later.

    Cheers!

Exact opposite for me both yesterday and on Thanksgiving. :slight_frown:

I have waited forever to try this Bourbon County Coffee Stout and I'm very happy that it was put into 4pks this year as it gave me a chance to get it. It's the best coffee stout I have ever had. Coffee, chocolate, bourbon, vanilla, caramel, and so much more! I'm breaking it into two 6oz pours to savor every bit of it. I'll have a few more new beers to share today. Make it a great NBS!

    Two things:
    1) I didn't even realize that my St. Bretta was a new beer - I thought it was the same one I'd had before, but that was the summer edition, this is their fall version :grimacing:
    2) I forgot that St. Bretta is classified as a witbier, not a saison, so a direct comparison to Sofie isn't really on-point

My unexpected New Witbier Sunday :stuck_out_tongue:
St. Bretta (Fall) from Crooked Stave

Full mouthfeel and tons of brett (as you'd expect), cut with Valencia oranges - reminded me of a denser, danker version of EvilTwin's Femme Fatale Yuzu Pale.
A superior drinking experience, and a great follow-up the lighter, more champagne-like Sofie. This was a solid beer with lots of tartness and muskiness.
Pricey (~$7 or 8?) but worth it. Were it cheaper, it'd be a go-to beer for the style and taste.

Gotta play some catch-up with the DVR - hope y'all enjoy a great new beer today!

    New Fruit Beer Sunday

    Hey all NBSer's,

Wow, time flies. Time for that weekly Sunday tradition, already. "Seasonable" is what the TV weather talkers say, and so it is. Still in the 30's in December. Gotta' like that in these here parts. Working to get into the season and enjoy the grandkid as he gets fascinated by all the glitter and lights and mystery that is the Christmas.

Today I'm appreciating that in my neighborhood state I have access to arguably the world's best fruit beers and so I imbibe today in such a glorious drink. So good, so wonderfully and deliciously good.

Best to all this week and every week.

At the bar , tried out a Sam Adams Rebel IPA. A little over sweet, fairly subdued. Not bad, but absolutely nothing special.

Going to go with a SN Celebration next. Not a new beer; just a better beer.

    NEW SAISON SUNDAY

Colder than a mother in law's love this morning when I went out for the paper. Brightand sunny gave way to cloudy and gloomy this afternoon.

Feeling dirty today. I bought into the GI hype and drove an hour and a half round trip to a chain store for a few packs of Bourbon County b-wine and coffee. Been a long while since I let the beer geek in me win that way. Not gonna lie though, I'm glad I got 'em.

For some perspective I enjoyed this unhyped, inexpensive gem that I brought back from mass. while spending some quality time in the kitchen making baby food. Avocado, pineapple, greek yogurt smoothie anyone?

This pic was taken in what used to be my office. Guess what is now. :-)

    New Vienna Lager Sunday

    Hello all!

I'm still trying beers from Wisconsin. Tomorrow, it will be a month since I moved here from New Jersey. (By the way, if there are any BA's in the Milwaukee area who want to meet up to have some beer, or take a brewery tour, let me know! I will be travelling back to New Jersey for a week or so later this month.

Anyway, I don't care much for butter in my lager, so I would take a Miller High Life over this one.

    From Milwaukee Brewing:

Hope your beer is better than this!

Didn't realize that I had so many new beers to drink today!

Their progression has worked out really well. Went from a saison to a "brett-y" witbier, and now onto a Belgian-styled, but American-made IPA...
    Featuring Westmalle's yeast...
    A Little Sumpin' Wild

Something of a Belgian/American hybrid, having yeast elements and presentation similar to a Belgian, but with a hop profile more akin to our American IPAs. The malts fall somewhere in-between, dense and chewy, very "grainy" and not particularly sweet.
I have been having a great New Beer Sunday.

    Cheers!

Howdy, I'm back again. This time I'm sipping on a Flemish Sour. I really like it when sours come in smaller bottles, as the larger format makes them unpleasant to quaff all at once. This one is one of the better sours I have had and reminds me of New Glarus Enigma, but is more intense. Plenty of sour stone fruit, green plum, and tart cherry. A bit of vanilla and cocoa give it a bit of sweetness.

    New Winter Warmer Sunday

    Greetings NBS,

Southern CT is overcast and chilly but the weather has been great for a few days now (although winter is looming). Tons of QT in and around home the past few days.

Today was the start of Christmas decorating which turned into cleaning the basement for me. I usually wait til the work is done for a beer but this project required a festive intervention from a Sly Fox beer I have each year's version of:

    http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/10397/104957/?ba=CHADMC3

Now I'm chilling with my daughter sharing some tortilla chips which I think my favorite part of is watching her little arm disappear into the bag for more (18 months).

    Be back later.

Good day everyone, rainy, cold gloomy day here in CT. Get's me thinking of the past, when I used to participate in this thread every Sunday. It's been nearly a year (give or take a few months either way) and I should really get back to it. A bit of a lull in the beer world for me for a while. So here's to my first NBS in a while.

Karbach's Yule Shoot Your Eye Out

a herbed/spiced beer with loads of spices ... smells like a pumpkin ale or winter warmer but tastes like the spice aisle at your grocery store; everything is in there, and while it's not my bag, it *is* pretty cool as a change-up (and check out that head! i promise you I poured as softly as I could, and that thing just mushroomed all on its own)

    New TRIPEL Sunday !!!

Good afternoon and greetings to the NBS group. It's nice to share a new beer with everyone today after missing last week. This virtual taproom is a hot spot, for sure. Here's what I "ordered" today:

Tap list at The Porch on Duval St., Key West. The bottle list was even more impressive. Get there if you can.

    Thanks for indulging me.

There are great beers and reading here today, as always. By the way, it was unseasonably pleasant today here at the Jersey Shore. Sunny and 50s, a very nice day.
    All the best, everyone. Cheers!
