I've noticed for the last several weeks, at least one of the three big IPAs is not available in bottles. Given Alpine's current bottle limits, this makes it really hard for me to pull the trigger on a drive from L.A.

Do you guys think this is purposeful? Another deliberate Pat move? Are the tanks being used for specialty stuff? Anyone else as frustrated as I am?

EDIT: I mean, more often than usual--over the past year, it's happened a fair amount, but lately it's every week.

No frustrations here. We just had beer week, they released a ton of new stuff and it's the holiday season. Small brewery is small.

If the drive is the major issue im sure somebody would be willing to help a brotha out.

    Dude, Hanlon's razor.

It's hilarious that anyone would even think that Pat might stagger his production and release schedules - not limits, schedules - to mess with out of town visitors. He may be prone to 'interesting' decisions, but intentionally keeping beers out of stock is a huge stretch, even for him.

Yes I'm frustrated as well. Alpine to me can be the best brewery out there if they wanted to be, but I think the lack of business sense is what holds them back. Yes they have the best Ipas we all know that. I also highly appreciate their recent releases as well. But.....

1)Taking forever to release great due to a bottling issue that took months,
2)Being out of draft beer at pub and having other kegs available, but not having access to the keys to get them from the cooler.
    3) Restaurant is great(no pun), but for the most part in the brewery, a non-approachable staff.
    4) Slow to get new growlers and/or new abc approval.
    5) No expansion while newer brewerier ie modern time distribute in cans.
    6) What op said.

If they want to stay small then hey more power to them. Them talking about expansion by investors and green flash and then not delivering is why i critique.
    Cheers!

Not sure which are the big 3 but when I went a few weeks ago I got bottles of duet and pure hoppiness plus the ale and stout. Skipped the Nelson but they had it.

I'm sure if you're planning on coming down someone will be willing to go get a few of each ahead of time just to keep you safe.

I did some research about Pat making changes to Alpine's business model to meet the wishes of people from LA.

Let's just say you can wish in one hand and spit in the other, and see which one fills up first.

OP is right. It isn't worth it. Just stay home. Better yet, go to bed.

Lol@ non-approachable staff. Just about as far from my experiences as you can get.

Actually I'd say Pat is mostly a Padres fan who was most certainly rooting against the Tigers when they were playing Boston this year in the post season, which should give you an idea how long Pat has been a Padre's fan.

Laura and I, on the other hand, have the Bo-Sox fan club at Alpine down on lock.

I think what he meant to say is that "non-approachable staff if you are an LA douchebag".

"Deliberate Pat move?" To not have his product in stock just to mess with people for....what?

Am I supposed to infer some kind of nefarious motive here? Like Pat is a mustache-twirling villain who came up with an evil Grinch-like scheme where he would make people happy by giving them great beer, then restrict the supply for no reason other than to make those people unhappy they could no longer have it?

To prevent them making a trip just to buy bottles for trade? Just conversatin' here, no serious accusations . . . you can't deny that some of his decisions/communications are a little inscrutable.

That seems highly far-fetched. He doesn't want you to sell his beer on eBay/at unlicensed dealers for a huge markup. Its not even an unreasonable belief on his part.

Seriously? This makes no sense whatsoever. Though that may have been the case with some of the special releases, there is no reason (logical or illogical) for them to do that with regular bottle releases.

They just aren't able to keep up with current demand - nothing more than that. I'm starting to wonder if you LA Dbags are actually taking a frivolous meme seriously. :LOL

^^ Wow, both of you guys are taking this way too seriously. And what, exactly, is your basis for calling me a dbag?

It's a frivolous meme, started when Pat got pissed off and stopped giving out growlers of Expo. Somebody on this board ranted about the "douchebags from LA" that came up, loaded up on growlers, then put it up on Ebay.

If you weren't being serious, then you sure fooled me with that original post. I make just as many "crazy Pat" jokes as anybody here; but even in AlpineSpace there is no logic that would lead to one concluding that the current bottle shortages were the result of some sort of master strategy.

Like you and everybody else, though, I'm curious about the status of their two partner ventures. It's pretty clear they're needed sooner rather than later.

Nothing in my original post suggested a "master strategy"; I also asked if tanks were being used for specialty beers.

Anyway, it's just a bummer--seems like any time I have a half-day to make the drive, they're out of one of the Big 3.

That's a bummer even if our drive is only 35 minutes (w/o traffic), too.

I think BikeRacer's original response is the best answer - little more to it than that.
