I've never completely understood the term "shelf turd". And this thread is only furthering my confusion.

Clearly one man's "shelf turd" is another man's treasure. Scarcity is a funny thing.

    That being said:

    its eas
its easy convert it to slow seller. or very high priced. the term is crude. a better term would be ex whale, or pricey import etc etc. You know?

besides I would never really call any beer a turd myself. Pricey yes, too damn pricey hell yea.
beer I would like if I was doing better money wise.....:grinning:

I would buy Trappist every day if I could hit the lotto, lol

I am an expert on 6 pack "shelf turds" that's mostly what I buy.

    1. Maximus
    2. Stone IPA
    3. FW Pale 31
    4. Drakes 1500
    5. Double Agent IPL
    6. Old Rasputin
    7. Moose Drool
    8. Black Butte Porter
    9. Hop Rod Rye
    10. Full Sail Amber

With beers like those shelf turding it up, I rarely see the need to spring for bombers anymore.
CA does not have a good, year round, 6 pack coffee beer, we could use one of those.

It's amazing how BCBS has become what it is today. When I got into beer 5+ years ago, it was abundant and sitting all over the place year round in AZ (where I lived at the time). You could walk into a local grocery store and there it was on the shelf, in the cooler, already with 1-2 years on it! (I've heard/read similar stories about Cantillon back in the day as well...) I had a few over the years, good beer and yeah it was the OG BA Imperial Stout, but that beer is so over-hyped at this point it's insane!

A beer that simply doesn't sell well. Just sits there on the shelf, collecting dust, and going to waste more or less (depending on the style and how it is kept, it could be aging gracefully or just turning to shit*)

*Maybe that is how the name got started; just a thought.

Black Butte, easily the best porter I have access to at any time and also the cheapest.

I really don't feel the need to list 9 other beers. . .
