So after my first few weeks of trading im HOOKED. I ended up getting some great brews my list is growing. I have 1 Hunahpu, 3 BCBCS, 3 DL, 2Founders Imperial, 2 Breakfast stout, 7 PtE, and i have CBS coming to me from my beer store. I think by next year i will have a nice cellar list.

+1 to this. It is way to easy to get over your head. Between the money spent on beer and shipping and packing, it can add up quicker than you might expect.

I see this often, with new guys trading 5-8 trades in the first two weeks (i raise my hand). Its the most addicting activity i can think of. Hell, i search the boards when i know there is a 0% chance that i will be trading. All that cash is just floating around, and then the realization hits you that you spent upwards of $120 in shipping, $30 in supplies, and a bunch on extras (not to mention the actual base beer). Adds up so quickly. But then you get a Black Tuesday in the mail, and all those worries go away

OP, as others have cautioned, try not to let it get too out of hand. It can be very addictive, and while fun, sometimes it can be hard to keep up.

As a side note, did anyone else think of this when they saw the title of this thread?

I was going to type the same thing! All awesome beers but like said above most are not age worthy. Maybe try to set up a tasting so you can use it as a way to try lots of other new stuff.

Seriously man, start slow. If you jump into tons of beer right away you won't appreciate it like if you take the time to learn about it.

And Just never promise a trader something you can't follow through on. Because sometimes things happen:-(

    Drink well soon!

Haha, you sound like me. I started with one trade, another, another, another, I won't do more trades, another trade .
I do have to agree with Shagtastic, take your time and learn about what you are drinking. I have failed in learning more about the history of what I'm drinking. I do have to say that I have been lucky to have a fellow friend guide me with my crazy trading and has made the process so much easier.

    Cheers,

    Carlos

I just completed my first trade the other week and I had no idea how much it would cost to ship! Definitely choosing my tradings wisely. I've got one more trade lined up, but then my wallet is going to stop me from doing it again for a while. Spent more on shipping than I did the beer! I know it varies a lot because of weight, but what's the average cost for shipping say two sixers?

I just shipped a box from FL to Chicago and paid around $13.45. It had around 12 beers or so. I wouldn't worry too much about weight, it is all about the size of the box.

It all depends on how far you are shipping. I can send a 10# box up and down the east coast for $10-12, but the same box to CA will likely be twice as much.

Trading is a highlight of beer for me. I enjoy getting new beers and sending out nice packages with good extras for others to enjoy.

However, don't get in over your head. Do a quick google search of "Adam Jackson" if you want to read a recent account on how beer trading "ruined" a guys life...heh.

Yeah - if you're doing this to start a cellar, you're mostly going after the wrong beers here. It's your beer to do what you want with, but for the love of Pliny, at least please drink those fresh.

    Haha....shipping costs.

I remember when I used to worry about those as well.....then I got into International trading.
