I am pretty sure it is, but was probably renovated numerous times.

BTW, they used to hire prisoners in the early 20th century...the law in Wisconsin where prisoners learned a trade before release is still called "Huber" work release.

You can get cases and 30 packs of their AAL's at Woodman's for under $10...really keeps the price pressure on InBev's and MillerCoors' low-end brands.

I had read it was in the office area, not the bottling area...they said production would be shut down for a short time.

No TJ's within a two hour drive either. :slight_frown: I live at the north end of a long, narrow county where there aren't many craft offerings. However, the south end of the county is enjoying a nice boom in micro and craft breweries, two of which are brand new.

The brewery didn't become known as the "Huber Brewing Co." until 1947, when it was purchased by Fred's father, Joseph Huber. Before that it was the Blumer Brewing Co., and the senior Huber was their brewmaster.

Huber Work Release Law was passed in 1913, and named after Henry Huber, WI politician (unknown relationship to the brewers - but it seems unlikely given Joseph's US immigration date of 1923).

For all you brewerania dudes, the brewery there had a pretty nice selection of all things beer in the basement. Might not be much to some of you, but to a non-collector it was a pretty impressive display.

Wow! I was at the local Germanic Institute the other day and met some folks who used to be neighbors with the Blumer family. They hadn't heard of the fire< but were surprised to learn that the old brewery name is still used on the current brewery's line of soda pop.

Minhas' page on history agrees with you...somewhere I read it was the same...I must have been duped...I apologize for the error.

A not so well known fact about the Huber Brewing Company is that it used to be located next to a jail. The brewery would hire out inmates during the day, after which they would return to their cells at night. From this initial "work-release" program grew Wisconsin's, and later on the nation's, Huber Work-Release Law (enacted in 1913).

I think you missed Jesskidden's post above (#67) where he discredits this legend:

It sounds like the brewery, before it was called Huber, hired prisoners under the Huber Law...but it had nothing to do with the Huber brewing family.
