Wish I'd never looked at this thread. Kinda F-ed up that getting there at 6 or 7 might not be early enough. I've not had BBPT5 but can't believe it's worth being in line in below freezing temps all night for. That said, I think I'll still give it a go in hopes that a lot of people are full of shit. At the very least I'll be able to try it on tap.

I honestly can't imagine 300+ people will be in line by 6am. You should be just fine, 2 hours before the event last year there were only 200 people in line and AFAIK not a lot of people got full allotments, as its damn expensive to do so. Come out, enjoy the beers and have a good time.

Plus I think the styles of beer that they have other than BBPT5 will turn out better than the ones last year.

Anyone wanna talk the warriors instead of lining up at the butt crack of dawn to shut this sucker down? I don't have the fortitude to come out and play at 2am.

There's an awful lot of complaining in this thread about nothing. If dudes wanna have an overnight bottle share (within the rules DH established), more power to them. What do you care? Whether you want to join them or not is entirely up to you. Whining about it only makes you look like an entitled jerk.

It's not a Great Lakes event thread unless the word "entitled" is misused.

I would characterize believing you somehow have the right to a short line and that those who (in your estimation) are jeopardizing that right are doing something "wrong", as evidencing a sense of "entitlement". But, what do I know?

I too am not going this year but last year I heard the same stories. I would recommend people line up at least at 5am, maybe 4 if you really want to be sure. Craft beer and limited releases have been exploding the past couple years. This year at Lincoln park binny's I lined up at 5am and they started selling at 9am. I still was a hundred or so back. And that's for a beer that had 9,000 bottles. Just line up whenever you want to line up. And don't pull that game where you tell people to line up late and you line up early.

I speak for myself however suspect all BA's love a good homebrew. The styles you mentioned are right up my alley and if I am around I would love to try them!

Knowing many of the people who are complaining and having seen how releases have progressed over the years I am inclined to agree with many of the complaints. I really do believe these complaints are coming from a place that wants to see these releases improve, not from a position of selfishness.

Releases have really passed the point of being ridiculous as of late. Before Founders went to tickets for KBS, you had to be in line at 3am (8 hours before they open) for bottles. The previous year was probably 730, the year before that 930. These things just progress is the wrong direction and it really does not benefit anyone. People are so worried about not getting their bottles they are going to allow releases to progress to a point none of us want to see. If people would relax, lining up early is really not necessary. The same amount of people would still get their beer if the line start at 7 and not 3.

If people were really going to pull an over-nighter to do nothing more than hang out, drink and have a jolly ol' time then I agree, these complaints have gone overboard. From what I am seeing that is not the case. What I am seeing is people being scared of missing out and other people feeding off of that fear.

BTW, I wrote this from the back of the line at Dark Horse. If you're not here already, you're out of luck. Everyone might as well show up around 9-10 and enjoy the party.

Don't disagree with any of that. I'm doubtful that people posting what time they're going to arrive is moving the needle much on this at all, and certainly not nearly as much as the simple fact that we live in a craft beer world now that is a *little* more heavily-populated (oh, and let's not forget the FIBs, always FIBs). I personally know both a couple of the "complainers" and the most recent "complainee". With respect to the former, they're good dudes and I know it's not being said with ill-intent which is why I was careful to say it made them "look" like that, not that they were that. With respect to the latter, I assure you, if he and some of his buddies overnight it, it's not out of fear of missing out on bottles; it's because it's a good opportunity to do exactly as you describe (have a jolly old time w/ friends). Not that that should matter, but that's the thinking; and frankly, this thread is a logical place to gauge the interest of other like-minded crazy people -- notably, I'm not much for freezing my arse off regardless of the quality of the company. So, I thought it was a little unfair that people appeared to be trying to shut down that discussion.

Regardless, a good time should be had by all, and I'm looking forward to it! See ya in a week! Since you're already in line, please save a spot for me and about a dozen buddies of mine driving up from Chicago.

Nobody is saying they have the right to a short line, people are just giving advice to noobs who haven't gone to many releases. You don't announce on a public forum what time you'll be there. Setting expectations of a release on a public forum is the worst thing you can do, people will set their expectations for that time and just arrive earlier. Obviously you don't think that has an that much of an effect - I disagree.

Nevermind the fact that there will be enough for 300 people. I would be shocked if there were 300 people in line a 1/2/3 am.

Giving people advice about how to approach a hyped release is not being entitled.

    Dayum 2013'ers!

All breathy posts aside....if you show up at the 4Elf PARTY and don't have a good time...you're going it wrong.

Nice shot on the "2013'ers". Last I checked, '06 and '10 both pre-date '11, but regardless, completely agree on having a good time. If you're not going to party, don't bother (and, if you wanna party overnight, that's your perogative)!
