I am going to savephilly for a trip in its self. Will do 77 to 40. Just thought about changing the route up. Will be making a day trip to Wilmington

Sorry, I don't know what I thinking offering a suggestion like that.

I don't know his plans or beer aspirations, but a major haul could be had by going through Philly, that's all I'm saying. If you're serious about beer, and you have never been there, it is well worth the trip. I once drove from Charlotte to Syracuse and took the same detour for the sole purpose of enjoying the beer offered there.

You must be the BeerAdvocate guardian angel, saving people from bad advice. This is noble work you're doing.
    You caught me, congrats.

If you are going 77 to 40 I would recommend Foothills for a brewery/food and Sam's in Durham for bottles, as already mentioned.

Not a well known place, but just after you come down the mountains on 77 and cross into NC, there's a winery called Round Peak (stay with me here...) that has launched a small brewery called Skull Camp. Right now it's really small batch stuff, 10 gallons or so, but it's good quality, and they're opening a brewpub In nearby Elkin quite soon. They have a beautiful patio overlooking the vineyard and mountains and it's literally 5 minutes off the interstate. Good place to kill a bit of time if that's the kind of thing you're looking for. Picnics are welcome, but it may be a bit chilly of course.

Foothill's is a must stop (in my low life opinion) just for the Jade alone. Hell maybe they'll have Sexual Chocolate/BB Sexual Chocolate/and/or Blendiculous II on tap while you are there .... Cheerz

Sorry if I annoyed you, but I fail to see how giving the OP locations that are well out of the way of his trip can be helpful.

Your second post was far better and something I would hope to see from a BA living in NC, since that's the destination of the driver.

Avoid 95. It's a stressful interstate that's full of pot holes and only 4 lanes. Having traveled to ohio many times, you're best bet is to come down 77 to mt airy and then hit us 52 to Winston. Then you can go by Greensboro, Durham and Raleigh via 40 and hit many shops and breweries.

Actually, his recommendations are not far off.....sort of. Jax is 20 min from Topsail, a quick day trip. Moorehead is a longer trip, however, as was noted.

If I was making the route, I'd go straight south and then east and southeast. 95 sucks. brstlsrmrs gave you the correct directions (77 52 40): Foothills, Bestway, tons in the Triangle. Have fun!

My map search indicated Jacksonville is a half hour one way, which would be an hour round trip, and Cedar Point is double that. At least that's what those internets tell me since I've never driven it.

I've driven it numerous times. You can make it in 20min.

Slight lead foot. :grinning:. Point is, not a bad drive since Topsail doesn't have any bottle selection for ya. Cheers!

If traveling on 40 I would stop in Raleigh. Ridgewood Wine & Beer has a nice bottle selection and a great selection of 16 on tap (their list is kept up to date on their facebook page). Additionally in Raleigh you have several other bottle shops close by, Bottle Revolution and Tasty Beverage. For bars / restaurants I would suggest The Busy Bee, Trophy Brewing, Raleigh Times and Tyler's at Seaboard Station. There is a new small brewery (Double Barley Brewing) about 20 - 30 miles east of Raleigh that has been getting good reviews.

The growler bill just got passed here in NC. But you have to buy the growler at the place you're getting the fill from. If you're coming through Winston/Greensboro, I recommend stopping at Bestway to get a growler. Unless you want to get one at a local brewery.

Front Street Brewery, the Copper Penny, Hops Supply Co., and Indochine are my go-tos.
