I wouldn't give my Summerfests to the non-craft drinkers.

I don't like it at all. I think it's not far off from macro junk. Definitely my least favorite SN beer. It's all good though because I'll just substitute it with Old Chico as my SN summer beer

I agree with this statement. Last year I gave my father-in-law one (primarily a BMC guy) and he enjoyed it. Or at least said he enjoyed it...

At the moment, one of my favorite summer, hang out beers.

Gamblor14 stated: “Last year I gave my father-in-law one (primarily a BMC guy) and he enjoyed it.”

So, given that Summerfest is perceived/described by BAs as being macro/BMC like, is that an ‘endorsement’ for this beer?

    Cheers!

You can say that stuff about most lagers. I see people on here all the time say that stuff about really good lagers, and its seems like its just because they associate the two. Ales are so popular here and lagers not nearly as much.

Don't paint us all with that silly brush! I happen to think the SN is exactly what BMC wishes it could be... if they hadn't given up on good brewing practices!

When did they have good brewing practices? The founder of Anheuser Busch said he can't stand his beer. Sierra Nevada wants to be a big brewery who makes good beer. AB wants money.

    Late 19th century.

Yeah, but he didn't like any beer!

I wouldn't say that it's perceived as macro-like. I was merely stating that a BMC drinker in my circle enjoyed the Summerfest I gave him (although upon re-reading my post I can see how one may have thought I was making that statement). Guess I was just saying it's a good transition from BMC to better beer. So maybe it IS macro-like.

Regardless, I don't think in this case it's a bad thing. As Swim424 said above, it seems a lot of lagers (both good and bad) are perceived as too similar to macros and thus, not considered worthy of drinking. While this is far from my favorite SN offering, I think it more than serves its purpose as a refreshing, summer lager. Call it a...semi-endorsement. I would recommend this to both BAs and non-BAs on a hot summer day.

I honestly think macro drinkers would like most quality Pilsners you gave them so I don't see it as a knock on summerfest.

That's funny because that's the way I felt about Old Chico yet I love Summerfest lol. How far is that one distributed? My girlfriends sister went to school there so I had it then but never saw it anywhere else.

When's the last time you had a fresh Michelob on draught?

It's all-malt, think there's even some imported hops in that one. Even though 99% of what they brew is probably considered less-than-good by 99.9% of beer advocates and folks actively-involved at other beer rating hobbyist websites, I still consider Michelob to be a "good" brand.

I don't know, really. I'm about 40 miles from the brewery and I see it when I go down to Roseville/Sac too, but I've never seen it farther than that, haven't really looked though.
