Had one opened the night of DLD and it tasted fine, no off taste.

I see so many of these trades and will never understand it. Personal preference to the extreme I guess.

Um, what the OP describes is exactly what could be found in a fresh bottle of '11 DL, so yeah, there's that.

    FosterJM - also the bacon.

What a mess that beer is. I can't speak for older vintages, but '10 forward have been beyond my appreciation. Sweet, poorly controlled mess. Everything I read on the label, included everything I didn't experience.

I don't recall any mention of green apple taste in the '11 DL. That said, I wasn't a huge fan of it fresh either...

In what way do you not understand it? Meaning the DL isn't worth a Hunah?

I didn't notice any off flavors from the bottle. The draft version had some cherry to it.

That was my experience... the first time. My subsequent experiences with '11 and '10 were not better. I guess I should update my info and drink my last bottle, but trading the shit is gonna be more lucrative (just being honest).

Was ''11 a particularly bad year? I've only had '09 with about 2 years time on it. I remember it being very sweet, thick, and not overly complex. Good, but not great.

I haven't been overly impressed with any of the recent vintages. I will still contend that '08 Dark Lord was one of my favorite beers of all time. I thought the '10 was better than both the '09 and '11. I'm thinking about doing a big review when I open my vertical this weekend. Probably post it in the Cellaring/Aging forum.
