Wow. Reading this thread makes me feel incredibly lucky. I've got several amazing bottle shops locally, including the biggest beverage store in the USA 10 minutes away. Plus the 2 closest gas stations carry Bell's and Founders.

Not the worst thing to see dusty bottles/6 packs on the shelf as more than likely directly behind them you will find the new stock which shows that the shop is at least rotating its stock properly. :grinning:

We've got one good bottle shop in town but unfortunately we don't get some/most of the best distribution that makes it into the state, gotta go at least 60 miles for that :slight_frown:

I have beer distro up the ass but I usually drive 50 miles to happily find some good old dusty ass over priced (never "out of date") bottles that sell out here in hours.

Actually, I would love to be 50 miles from the nearest bottle shop.

But you have the Fitz! I'd drive 2 hours to that place any day. Also Marcat took me to this co-op in Houghton that had a wonderful selection.

I'm right next door to that co-op, its about the only place I shop but its still small compared to say a trigs, plus remember the fitz closes for a good 6 months, love the food there but with 3 kids can't be going there 3 times a week.

Yeah, there is Jai Alai (nothing else by CCB that I've seen though), but I've bought it the past few times I've went on a beer run. I wanted some more variety and ended up disappointed by all the out of date bottles and overpriced 4/6 packs. Why is a 4 pack of Caracole's (spelling?) witbier $19?!

    They don't even offer a discount or mark-down on less-than-fresh merchandise :\

Closest decent bottle shop for me is out of state, at least a 75 minute drive.

PA distro is great in areas. Try moving up to north central PA and tell me our distro is great. For me to get any sort of a choice for beers it is an hour drive to Corning or Williamsport.

    LOL...

"Daddy, why do we have to move, and leave our friends and go to a new school??"

"..Uh, well, you see, daddy's an alcoholic..."

Ain't it the truth. Nostalgians and historians swim the same water, but see different truths. Cheers!

Most places in Buffalo are pretty good, but at a few of the consumers you have to watch your bottle dates if you're buying an IPA.

I once found a 2 year old of Maharaja in Michigan at a store with a fairly good rep. TOld the cashier about it and his response was along the lines of "Somebody will buy it eventually." Mental note madeto stay away from IPA's there.

I kind of hate Halftime beverage since they recently evaluated which states they can ship to and realized PA is a no ship zone. This came as a shock since I have been ordering from them for over a year, taking away my joy just in time for Christmas...

edit: I would love to check out their shop someday though...

    I concede, you're correct.
I sometimes forget between Philly & Pittsburgh it's can be a wasteland for just about everything.

However, I stand by my comment since I think it is fair to assume when the person referred to is complaining about PA and NJ, he/she is relatively close to Philly.

I have come to the conclusion that in PA I need a circle of fellow BA friends that are within reasonable driving distance, some in NJ would be nice for pricing, and pool money to purchase cases to be divided based on interest.

    Cue cricket chirping...

Cross fingers...hopefully the line I have on a case of FW 17th comes through and me & a fellow NJ BA can split that case this week.

Have you ever talked to the person in charge of the store(s) you shop at? There's a store up in Jax Beach called Broudys and every time I visited the area, I would stop in there, hopping that they had some good/fresh beers. Well, at first, they didn't. It was always the same old, out of date merchandise and no one seemed to care about the beer. So, I would just go the Publix in the same shopping center, grab a 10 day old 6er of Jai Alai, and call it a day.

Then, about a year or so ago, new management took over, they got rid of all of the stale merchandise and revamped the beer section. My dad lives in that area and shops there fairly often, they even bring in beers with him in mind because he started talking to the beer guy(s). Maybe the same could happen in your area if you and more people started talking to them about it...
