    Hello BA family,

I've been into the craft beer world for a year or so and through a few trades, I managed to get my hands on some beer that I had always wanted to try. I am wondering if they should be aged or just drink fresh. I have read the reviews of each beer and still have no clue which way to go. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

    -2010 Parabola
-2011 Backwoods Bastard (Have 4, thinking of just aging 1)
-2012 FRIS (Have 2, thinking of aging 1)
-2011 FBS (Have 6, thinking of aging 1)
-CBS (Looks like it is now or never for it)
    -2010 Abyss
    -2011 Sucaba
    -2011 KBS
    -2012 KBS
    -2012 BCBS
    -Curmudgeon's Better Half
    -PT5th

    Thank you,

    Carlos

    • Parabola '10: I'd drink it sooner rather than later. It's a great beer, and already two years old
    • BWB: Personally, I don't age these just to 'age' them, but I hold on to some to have throughout the year when they're not available because I like it a lot. Some year's it's a bit hot right after bottling and a little time helps to round things out, but IMO the '11 batch was fantastic right from the get go.
    • Fouders Imperial Stout: This is a beer that I think changes well (to my tastes) over a wide continuum of time. I love it fresh, I love it with a year, I love it with two years. I think it probably starts going a bit downhill after three years, but that's based on limited sampling.
    • FBS: Kind of like BWB; I keep it to have it, cause I like it, but I don't keep it specifically to age. It's in its best form fresh.
    • CBS/CBH: If you haven't had it, drink it sooner rather than later. If you have had it, I'd find some reason to open it within the next 3 to 6 months
    • Abyss '10: It is drinking fantastic now, and probably will still be tasting great for some time. I wouldn't put off drinking it for too long though.
    • KBS '11: Drinking great now
    • KBS '12: I like KBS better with some time. But honestly, you can't go wrong drinking it relatively fresh
    • BCBS 2011 (there isn't 2012): It is absolutely fantastic now. It will probably remain tasty for awhile, but there is really no reason to put off drinking
    • Plead the 5th: of all the beers you listed, I think this has the largest 'drinkability' window time wise.
Edit: I forogot sucuba. Drink it now - all of it. I've never tasted a BA beer that has had such a sharp and pronounced fall off within the first year after bottling.

Thank you for the reply and the great info that came with it! Sorry about the error on the year of the BCBS, I totally missed that one.

Guess there will be some drinking done the next few days .

No need to do any chugging - none of it is in imminent danger of self destructing. It's just most of those beers are ready for drinking sooner rather than later. If you have multiples and want to experiment with holding on to them for awhile, more power to you. I just think before keeping beers longer term it's important to have some sort of baseline/point of reference. And for the vast majority of beers, the fresher they are the better they will taste. With that in mind though, there are (for me personally at least) a lot of beers that I really like drinking that are only available seasonally or through trades, so that necessitates keeping them on hand for longer windows.

    Just my .02.

I just drank one of my Better Halfs the other day. Honestly, I don't know what age could do to it. It's super sweet and at 11.8%abv it drinks incredibly smooth, and taming any heat isn't an issue at all. The other one is in the cellar, but once I get the feeling, it's coming up, maybe along with a cbs.

There will be no chugging of fine beer. I appreciate the valuable info you have provided me with.

JdoubleA, the better half is one that I've been craving since the moment I heard it was going to be released. Looking forward to it even more after reading your post.

    Thanks again,

    Carlos
