Here is Wine Enthusiast's top beers for 2013. I was hoping it would be NEW beers released during 2013, but there are definitely some beers on this list I haven't had and would like to try:

    Article: http://www.winemag.com/Web-2013/Top-25-Beers-2013/

But for some reason they put their list on a PDF: http://www.winemag.com/PDFs/BOY_Beer_R2.pdf

If you don't feel like reading here's the top 10:

    1) New Glarus Wild Sour Ale
    2) Trappistes Rochefort 10
    3) Deschutes Hop Henge Experimental IPA
    4) Smuttynose Big Beer Series Baltic Porter
    5) The Bruery Oude Tart
    6) Anchor Porter
    7) Ayinger Bräu-Weisse Hefe-Weizen
    8) Aleman-Stone-Two Brothers DayMan Coffee IPA
    9) Alaskan Brewing Co. 2012 Smoked Porter
    10) Allagash FV 13

Opinions of taste vary a lot, but it's a respectable list reflecting many styles, and classic and new beers. It's biased to American buyers, but that's to be expected as it's the magazine's main audience. At least there's nothing offensive there.

I have to chuckle that Alaskan Brewing Co. 2012 Smoked Porter is on a list of best 2013 beers, but I'm sure that has to do with it's brewing vs. release date.

Bittersweet seeing Hop Henge on there. I love how underhyped that beer is. For $5.99/22oz, you can't find a better imperial IPA in my book, and that's including Hop stoopid which is IMO not really that great.

Gotta disagrew on the stoopid. 44.50 a case and what I think is almost a perfect balance of sweet, hoppy goodness. Just imo

I figured that Rogue's Maple, Banana, salami, provolone, tomato ale would be on that list.

Stoopid is easily one of the most underrated gems on the shelves today.

I'd say its a pretty decent list. Lots of styles are reflected as another BA noted. I like that none of the beers are whale types either

I believe you mean roasted corn, banana pepper, toilet water, dirty laundry and maple syrup. (Really, thats what I think they taste like)
You sir, are sooooo correct imo.

To each his own. No doubt it's a bargain and solid, but I just don't view it "great."

I agree with you that based purely on flavor it may not qualify as great, but factoring in the Price:Quality ratio it scores a lot of bonus points

Exactly, personally I dont find double simcoe all that utterly great either, yet it gets huge heaps of praise. As you said, to each his own and I toast you for having that mindset!

Oh I like it to, just not as much as certain other IPAs, but when you factor price in its a winner

9 of 25 IPA, sad list IMHO. Especially from a wine mag.:grimacing::flushed::rolling_eyes::stuck_out_tongue:

What is a wine magazine doing reviewing beer?
Is Beer Advocate going to publish their list of the Top 2013 wines? If not, why not?

If only 1200 bottles were brewed each year would that change your opinion?
