A local shop near me will probably have 2+ cases of Enjoy By 12.13.13 still left over near Christmas based on how long it has been sitting there.

Does Stone or the Distributor buy these beers back once they've "expired," or should i offer $2/bottle (just throwing out a number)?

Seems like kinda a dick move to offer $2 bucks for a $6-8 beer. Guess you may not like your bottle shop all that much.

I'm guessing Stone has a deal with them. I was wondering how long this would go before we'd start seeing some contraction. Enjoy By production - capped.

Probably just means they'll dry up the area before doing SoCal again if there is a lot of shops that still have it on the shelf.

From what I remember the dude at Bill's told me. Yeah, sometimes distributors will take it back, but stores really don't want to do that because it creates a bit of tension with your distributor in landing bigger beers and higher allocations of other stuff.

Since Stone is a distributor, who knows how they handle this. I have, in the past, seen Enjoy by's on the shelf after their listed date.

Bars and bottle shops both need to learn to not order quantity beyond their means. Better to run out early than be stuck with excess inventory of seasonal/perishable product.

Edit: I realize this post is pretty much useless to the OP, it just drives me crazy when beer retailers can't grasp the concept of rotation of perishable product.

People can't afford to pay 10 bucks a bomber every day. Enjoy by = shelf turd.

I actually saw a store with Enjoy by 10.xx.13 this past weekend. And also, it's pretty readily available at costco.

So is the Enjoy By hype starting to fade away. . . . .There's nothing wrong it going a bit past it's Enjoy by date.

I think it's still a good ipa. I will keep it stocked next to the big 3 Alpine ipa's, pliny, jo, & whatever else is out there at the time.

Its a give and take scenario. The retailers have don't want to eat dead product and distributors don't want to send product to places that send it back; they decide the retailer can't sell anything so they don't send them anything desirable. Go back a year and Enjoy By was not a shelf beer. Its actually Stone's "fault" for increasing the amount that's being sent out there (I realize it is not their "fault" really).

Its a strange relationship where breweries have "enforcers" that bitch to retailers about old product, but simultaneously send them product based on them not sending stuff back.

The 12.13's in this area are lasting WAY longer than they ever have. Just six months ago, they sold out in a day at every major store near me. Now they're everywhere and almost past the best buy date, including Bevmo and Trader Joes. I assumed they increased the quantity they were producing or this area got a much bigger shipment this time.

When did 12.13 come out? It seems like it released a lot closer to the actual 12.13 enjoy-by date than I remember previous releases, but it could just be faulty recollection.

I bought 4 bottles at Costco on 11/10. The bottles have a date on them of 11/08.

A local bottle shop has the 11-12 (just tapped) for $11/64 oz. I don't care what you say, but at 30 days past it's 'good til' date, this is still one helluva great beer at an amazing price.

    Well yeah.

I just drank one of my 11/08 bottles last night. Still tasted stellar.

With this latest batch, I've seen a lot more of it sitting on the shelves, and I imagine quite a few retailers will have some bottles left at the end of this week. I guess the novelty is wearing off a little. Still a great beer, regardless.

It would be kind of stupid to act as if the beer suddenly becomes undrinkable after the 'enjoy by' date: it's still going to be fresher than most IPAs on the shelf for at least a couple weeks.

I still have a growler of it and a few bottles in the fridge.
