I've bitched to eBay a few times, never heard anything back. Pretty sure it would take a state DA for them to give a shit.

Good for him for keeping his word, he has the right and it rewards locals anyways, which everyone around here seems to constantly praise. Now I'll have to make it to the brewery to try some.

It seems ridiculous. Punishing everyone for the mistakes of a few. Most people buying growlers will just enjoy them, so if a couple clowns decide they want to make a few bucks, why ruin it for everyone else? Imagine if every brewer followed through on his threat of no bottling. We'd have no more rare (and many amazing) beers. Heady Topper, gone. PtE, gone. GI stuff, gone. Dark Lord, gone. I could go on. Every limited beer gets put up on eBay, so that's why this is ridiculous. It's a minority, so just brush it off and realize some people are going to be jackasses, but that's no reason to hurt your loyal customers who want to take it home. I mean if I drove to get Expo, I could have no more than 1 glass at that ABV and then I'd have to leave. What? Come on... It's just beer. Enjoy it and ignore the idiots who use it for the wrong reason, but be proud that you're satisfying your loyal customers.

Clearly a saint. Like a misbehaving child that is good for three seconds and gets a cookie.

drinking and driving is more illegal than shipping growlers. (at least it has a bigger consequence.) So now if you want expo, you can drink four pints at the brewery and drive home, but you cannot take four pints in a growler home with you to drink in safety and comfort. Yes, the illegality is simply a red herring. This is about his personal indignance that he cannot control what people do with his beer after he sells it to them.

Or you could go to the pub and drink responsibly and drive home safely. You do not have to drink four pints. Awful argument there.

The man has beliefs and he is standing up for them. Why do people have a problem with that? Feel free to disagree with what he believes in but I cannot understand taking shots at him for standing up for what he believes in.

No to EBAY gouging and selling beer, it's illegal and they shouldn't allow it.

A growler's worth of the beer is four pints, that was my point. Now the only place you can have four pints is at the brewery. I am not saying it's a good idea, but he just made it impossible to have four pints at home.

Granted this is just my perception, but it seems like there are a number of people who are stating they should be able to have four pints of this beer at home. That just sounds a little too much like entitlement to me and not a real valid argument. If the beer is available in growlers than you should be able to enjoy it at home, if it is tap only then they shouldn't. It's unfortunate a few had to ruin it for all but that's the way it goes all too often.

He can do what he wants, it's his brewery and his beer to sell. That being said, I think he is acting a bit childish. Really, how often are growlers showing up on Ebay? Why not just track down the seller and pursuit him that way? Punish everyone for the act of one (or a few).

So is he pissed we trade for his bottles too? Locals are not consuming them, does he have issue with that too?

Calling bullshit since I went and looked for the growler the minute I found the article.

It was up there. Maybe not that guys growler, but someone else's. Either way, a growler WAS up after the posting of the article.

Sorry but gotta disagree with you. His statement will not hurt Alpine at all.

If it does hurt Alpine at all...hey great for me. That means when I go to the brewery once a week to get a growler or a few bottles they will not be sold out.

Just to also give everyone a heads up...this is how Pat (the owner of Alpine) is. He comes off this way in basically all his emails or blogs. He is actually a really great guy. He just does not like the reselling of his beer ANYWHERE. He hates ebay with a passion (So does Vinny, So does Greg Koch and so do many others). He also does not like to be proved wrong (believe me I know).

This will not hurt Alpine in any way at all. They are a very small brewery. Locals stand by him and the brewery 100% and I doubt a number of people in the SoCal area that can get Alpine beer will stop buying it because of his emails or blogs. Do I agree with Pat? Yes. Do I agree with the way Pat comes off or sounds in his emails or blogs? Not all the time.

As long as Pat and Alpine keep making great beer for me to buy I will stand with them.

They won't do anything unless absolutely forced, and even then, they'd fight it tooth and nail. They make millions a year on beer sale fees.

Ah yes, very commendable of him for pulling down a growler of beer that he shouldn't have put up in the first place.
