    I don't know how many times I've purchased an IPA that was at least 2-3 months old after bottling. I haven't had a fresh one in ages.

    Ugh. =P

    Why don't you check the bottling date before you buy them?

    Yes yes yes. Some have codes that you can't really figure out while at the store, while some don't have a date. And it seems my stores only sell older ones, maybe to make room for newer ones in the back.

    Oy.

    Yeah thats what I would do but I don't have a smartphone. I guess my post meant to say "put easy to read bottling dates on beer".

    I wonder why brewers don't do that.

    Brewers don't do that because people continue to by their product. It is really counterproductive to complain about "old" IPAs on the shelves while you continue to by them.

    Another point, two to three month old IPAs are still with in most breweries suggested shelf life. This is perfectly acceptable beer to be on the shelf.

    Buy from the ones that do. Russian River, Firestone Walker, Deschutes, Great Divide, Bear Republic, Dogfish Head, Elysian, Full Sail, Stone...

    Yeah, First World Problems I was going to say.

    2-3 month old IPAs are perfectly acceptable. Ideal? Maybe not. But still fine.

    I don't buy any IPAs that are more than 3 days old, after that they all just become an undrinkable drain pour. Even 3 days is pushing it sometimes

    word. you should try to set up an arrangement with a local brewery where you can drink directly from the vessel in which the beer ferments BEFORE it is done fermenting. then you can up the ante and post on BA that you never drink anything hoppy more than a week before it is going to be bottled.
