Do you have to have a growler from that particular brewery to get a refill?

For instance could I take a Pizza Port growler to Ballast Point and get a refill?

In Minnesota you cannot do this but in Wisconsin you can. Curious what the rules are in San Diego..thanks for the help.

You need the brewery's own branded growler to get it refilled.

For this reason I NEVER bought a growler in SD. As soon as I moved to Va. I bought a few. Going to Whole Foods and being able to choose from different breweries is awesome. Out of touch law in Ca though.

It makes the value of a growler go from borderline not worth it to decidedly not worth it.

Someone on the Bruery RS forum mentioned that there was some credible attempt to change the law. Anyone heard about this? The poster was being coy.

it can't be driven by the bruery, they've gotta be profiting handsomely off the price of their glass.

If i remember correctly from the old forums I think it was BA misterclean who worked in Sacramento with politicians, or something to that effect.
I think he was attempting to get some new legislation written, but that's the last I heard/remember of it.
