unfortunately this has happened to me plenty of times. it's annoying b/c OP spent so much money, but otoh he could trade his 3 GM in about 1 hour (or sell them to plenty of people who would pay for shipping and then some!) so it's not exactly a travesty here.

People seem to be missing the main point, which is that these trade forums run on TRUST. We agree to send beer to people we don't really know, and trust that they will send their end as well. We sometimes drive to breweries and pick up beer for people we don't know, or buy beer for them, trusting they'll follow through and complete the trade.

For someone to get to the point of the trade where very expensive beer has been purchased on his behalf, and then walk away because he didn't like how much the shipping was going to cost, puts 100% of the responsibility on that person. Doesn't sound like this guy is a new trader, so he should have had a good idea what shipping costs on that much beer would be.

I don't know if that makes this person a "bad trader", but I think the heads up about being wary of trading with this person is certainly justified, so that other people know what they might be getting into going forward.

It will be hard to find someone with 8 BCBCS and 16 BCBS AND wants to have 3 GM instead. He wasn't expecting "gopickupformebrah" so offering to pay and send shipping label doesn't really help all that much.

The point that you guys seem to be missing with your arguments is that the trade was set up and after the beer was bought by the OP stouts4me tried to change the trade by wanting to send less beer. I get the excuse that things come up but in this case nothing came up he just wanted to get the trade done for less beer. And if the excuse is that the shipping was going to be too much, the OP said he would pay the difference.

Offering to pay and send a shipping label gets him 100% out of whatever hole he was in. He doesn't get what he wanted in the trade but he's exactly back to where he was before trade talks started. Which is why it's a pain for him but not a real travesty.

He would actually still end up ahead BC he would make some ba very happy. There are hundreds of people on the forum who would love to send cash and a shipping label for grey Monday. These people would get op back at some point for sure

Nope, didn't miss the point, we just disagree. Thus the definition of "grey area".

This has happened to me 3 times in the past 2 months.

All I do is click the "ignore" button and chalk it up to the game.

Not to come to the defense of stouts, but I don't think it would be that cheap through Fedex. Last time I shipped a package, it was 2 bombers from IL to Ohio and was ~$16 through Fedex.

Trading feedback is nice but useless in this sort of thing.

It's like when you get the GO, you package everything ready to ship and they back out. Nothing was lost but shitty trader for sure.

I've shipped full 12 bottle cases of 750's back and forth from Boston to San Diego (The Bruery) a billion times and it's always right about $42 (give or take a buck) via Fedex with an online account. There's no way you should be sniffing anywhere near $64 on 24 12oz bottles from Indiana to San Diego... Did you go through a reseller or pack in an extremely oversized box?

As for this trade... He obviously just wanted to back out of the deal, so the warning is justified IMO. The extra shipping cost is not even a valid reason to call it off, but black13 went above and beyond by offering to pay the difference. Deal was made, beer was purchased for deal, and one side backed out. Not cool.

I just shake my head anymore at people who defend "bad" traders because of their past experience...

Sorry to hear about the problem, but I traded with Stouts without a hitch, and I would recommend him based off that one trade. Sorry there was an unpleasant issue here though.

He's not saying you're lying, he's saying you're paying too much for shipping and even asked a question to help identify the abnormal costs: "Did you go through a reseller or pack in an extremely oversized box?'

Read a bit more carefully. The gentleman that you are quoting noted that you "should" not be paying that much based on his experience. He did not call you a liar, but I might say you are acting like a jerk.

Depending on your Bruery membership level, it either cost the OP $96 (hoarders) or $102 (reserve society) for three bottles of GM. Feel free to argue over whether we're obligated to pass along our 15% or 20% club discount, IDC. Just sayin' this was the approx. cost.

And FWIW, last week or so, it cost me $14.50 to ship two 12 oz bottles from SoCal to Oregon.
