“How close to a Dubbel might this beer be?” Am I understanding you correctly? After you made the beer you are posting your recipe and asking if the recipe is consistent with a Dubbel?

Mr. BigJoeC I try my best to keep my posts on a positive wave but you sir are a piece of work.

I truly hope that the beer you brewed will turn out OK but you would be better served if you carefully read the beermails that were sent to you.

I think he got the recipe from the LHBS and had tried it on tap if I recall.. I think he's asking if it's close because of this mishap with the OG and such. Not if the recipe is sound in terms of a Dubbel.

WLP500 is a slow starter, then takes off vigorously(in my experience). You may have just missed the action. I would recommend carrying on as usual. Take notes and learn from your experience. You may or may not have a Dubbel, but you will likely have a drinkable beer.

    Cheers

FATC1TY, you are correct. I was referring to whether or not the recipe, along with my mistake, would still resemble a Dubbel.

Jack, apologies for being "a piece of work". For a moment I thought there was a chance you were my father from when I was 10 years old and I didn't do something exactly how he wanted. Then I realized this is BA and my flashback was from 25 years ago. At no time would I ever brew something and then ask if the exact recipe would yeild my goal. I was curious what the highly educated and experienced BA guys (and gals) thought I would get from the recipe I brewed combined with the mistake I made. As for the beermail you referenced, I haven't gotten any indication that I had any beermail so I haven't read any in quite some time.

Anyone else who may still be interested in this mess of a thread, would you do anything other than allow this batch to ferment for a total of 4 weeks and then bottle? Would you suggest waiting the standard 2 weeks I normally wait before trying it? I understand a Dubbel comes out better with age.

“As for the beermail you referenced, I haven't gotten any indication that I had any beermail so I haven't read any in quite some time.”

I sent you a beermail with my recipe for how to ‘properly’ make a Dubbel. I received an indication that you read that beermail (the system informs you when a person opens a beermail). Instead you decided to ignore my recipe and brew what you decided to brew instead.

Again, I hope that what you brewed turns out well. If you brewed what I sent you it would have turned out ‘better’,

It is aggravating when you ask BA people for help. You ignore their help. And then ask questions after not accepting their help.

    I feel for you father.

    Cheers!
