There is no such thing. But there are many great stouts. Try them all before YOU decide which is the best.

Stone IRS, as well as Evil Twin Even More Jesus, are in my opinion, the two best non barrel aged stouts I've had thus far. As far as best stouts, period... My awards go to... Bourbon County Stout, Avery Uncle Jacobs Stout and Firestone Parabola.

DFH World Wide Stout ages very well, it only gets better with age.

I would think Bell's Back Note Stout would be a great one if you can get your hands on it.

Narwhal ages very well. I opened a 2012 the other day and it is becoming very balanced.

One of these days. I vow to get at least a couple of bottles this year.

Agreed! I was at my local Chalet talking to the manager, a super nice guy, about stouts. I mentioned Black Note being highly regarded but near impossible to find. He said if I stopped in the next day he would have a bottle for me.

Living a little over an hour from Bells I hope will up my chances of getting some next year.

Basically all imperial stouts are great to age. Haven't had one yet that got worse over time...

Agree that there are too many excellent stouts to mention. My go-to's: Narwhal, Stone IRS, Old Rasputin, Brooklyn BCS. Other "hard-to-finds" that I love: Founders Imperial Stout, Alesmith Speedway Stout, Clown Shoes Very Angry Beast, Founders KBS.
Still cellaring but about-to-try for the first time: Stone Woot Stout.

Narwhal is my hope, I have a few laid back to find out, but surprisingly Ten Fidy really comes around at 2 years (in a can!) even though it is fine at the start it takes on a deeper level of richness if you can store it.

Another of my favorites, that doesn't get enough aging because it is so good, is Peche Mortel http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/1141/10325

By the way... I acquired some 2005 Stone IRS's, which aged brilliantly. As well, I got the 2006 and 2009 Mephistopheles from Avery.
