    Hey everyone -

So long story short, reason for posting this is I live in the city of Pittsburgh, am a BA, and outside of my lovely fiance dont have really anyone in my social circle in the area to enjoy the finer beers in life with. Yeah, I have no problem drinking them myself but I do enjoy the social aspect from time to time, and not just at bars.

I travel quite a bit for business to San Francisco/Chicago/Burlington, as well as for personal trips to see family back home in Michigan, and up through Western New York. Always bring back beer from wherever I go (most recently brought back a full two suitcases from Russian River, including a full 12-er of Pliny and the sour lineup). Mainly, I'm just looking for people to enjoy/share/taste/trade with, or hit up the local bar releases/tappings.

I guess if there's something out there already to get involved in, or if this is something people were interested in starting feel free feel free to BM me and we can start a seperate conversation.

    Thanks!

I'm not down there often enough to chime in about getting together for a beer, but as far as a bottle share, there was one in February of this year and then I think another during the summer, but I didn't make that one.

I imagine, with 2 big holidays before the end of the year, another tasting won't take place this calendar year, but another one to break up the monotony of the winter might happen. (Being an out of towner, I just try to heed the call if it's sounded. Where we had the one last February worked really well.)

Here's the thread for the one I attended: http://beeradvocate.com/community/threads/pittsburgh-tasting-sign-up.55213/

I live in WV. I'd love to share/trade if the opportunity should arise. I'm sure there isn't anything down here you can't get your hands on but I do travel and usually bring back hard to find items.

There is not a set tasting group per say. So the Pittsburgh BA group started off with a bang approx 4 or 5 years ago, with a huge tasting at The Library in South Side. This was the first ever BA tasting I attended and as far as I know the first in Pitt as well. There were probably 50-60 people that attended. Honestly it was probably a bit much, but I dont think anyone knew what they were really doing or what to expect. After that there was a group of maybe 10-20 of us that did semi regular group tasting maybe once a quarter. We usually ran into problems finding places for these tasting/bottle shares to take place. These happened over the course of a year or two, and the group of "regular" shrunk to 4-6 of us. As the group got smaller we started getting together at peoples houses. Participation has always seemed to be an issue, and not sure why. I tried starting a regular time/place to get together on a weekly basis at my house so people could come and go as they pleased along with having something that out of towners could also use when they are in town or just passing through. It basically is just me and another buddy that opens 3-4 bottles each and just shooting the shit. There are definitely more BA's here in and around the city. I can attest that I know at least 20-25 people around here on BA that I know personally, and either have participated in a tasting in the past or I see at releases, events and the like. This pretty much led to the tasting mentioned above. The "regular" group had gotten so small we thought it would be a good idea to have another "public" tasting to meet new people. The first was held at 99 Bottles last year I believe. Based on previous experience we didnt have high expectations for a big turnout, but were pleasantly surprised by how many people showed up and the beers that were opened. A few that attended that tasting also became "regulars" A second was held at the Beerhive and was better attended than the 99 Bottles one with a similar outcome. A third was attempted and was only attended by myself and 3 others.

I have always hoped that there were more events like this to attend, and more of a core group that were "active". There are a few others who I believe share this sentiment as well. Most have just grown content with what is already established. Im not complaining about this, as many of these people I consider my very good friends.

Hey if any of you guys want to get anything together let me know. I've been looking for some people, or a group, to share/ trade with in the pittsburgh area. Other BA's I know from other cities have groups like this but I can't seem to find one for the pittsburgh area. Feel free to bm me anytime or set something up in this thread if possible.

I'd personally love to meet some beer peeps around the city - besides the handful of gents I've had some business with from this site so far - but I work such an atrocious schedule that being "sociable" and "making friends" are things I basically do not get to do with my life. Like, to put that in perspective, I have literally worked all but three of the Friday and Saturday nights so far in this calendar year and am pretty confident I'll do all of each from here on out to end the year. The hospitality industry is the worst. I also don't exactly have the most impressive collection of anything since I'm a modest enthusiast about this stuff.

I've been wondering the same thing. I have two buddies I drink with regularly, but I'm basically the one that provides the beer. I'm not mad about it. They're my best friends, and I'm the most passionate about it and do the trading and (minor) traveling, and know in due time they'll be able to put in more of an effort. But I've been looking to get connected with more beer enthusiasts in the city. Guess I'll send out some BMs, and feel free to hit me up. Would love to get connected!

Welp, looks like we need to plan another Pittsburgh tasting. Since the last one I did only 4 people showed up, I will let someone else do this one. Any takers? Beehive will probably be cool with us doing it again. They gave us a bunch of free glasses last time.

If anyone is east of the city (Monroeville, Murrysville, Irwin, Penn Trafford or Greensburg) and is looking for tastings let me know. We do them at 3 Rivers 6 Pack once a month with others at different people's houses.
